Another 8-ball Cuetable Layout

Actually I never indicated an end point for the CB just a direction. The goal here is to tie up the 6 not land the CB in any specific spot. It's fine with me if the CB travels farther than the end of that line WITH AND ARROW on it as you may get a nice little bust out on the 12 and 13.

Oh and as for your guarantee of my agreement, I'm probably one of the least agreeable people you'll ever meet.
I am not talking about being agreeable. What I am talking about is common sense pocket billiards.High percentage shot selections. That's what wins matches. Not miracles:rolleyes:

The 6 will get you to the bank just as well, just get to the headstring area off the 5. Even that has a margin of several inches. You can bank the 8 from a pretty big area, even bellow it. That would depend on how the player feels about banking as well, some people dont know, or don't like to bank from certain angles.

True but by tying up the 7, you kinda take the 6 out of play since your opponent will use that to break the 7 out again. Regardless, you're almost guaranteeing another inning, from what I see though I could be wrong.

The 7 is why the bank is so on. I mean, if you have to play position for that bank, it gets tough but when you have teh 7 giving you perfect shape, the bank is a hanger.

Jude,

is there alot of 8 ball played at Amstredam Billiards? For some reason I have started to like it recently, for years I couldnt stand it and now for no reason I'm getting into it. perhaps i'm getting old and this is the first step to being a old time 1P player:confused:

The Predominant game at Amsterdam is 9-ball. 14.1 is definitely second and because of that, you'll see the occasional 8-ball set. We usually send a large group to Vegas in May so you'll see it played A LOT between March and April.

I think 8-ball on the barbox is one of the best pocket billiard games there is.It is very complex and requires tons of knowledge to play well. Now 8-ball on the big table is a terrible game to me.I can't stand it.

Why?

To me it's the opposite, I can't stand playing on small tables (anything bellow an 8 footer), there is not enough room to maneuver and the smaller area throws off your speeds once you are used to a 9-footer.

A few years back I scoffed at 8-ball as a "skill" game, but after learning more about it, I find it's just as challenging as any other game, but in different ways. 9-ball tests your ability to play shape and pocket balls, 8-ball involves smaller moves and more strategy to win. It's almost like a mix between 1-picket and straight pool.

I think we are talking about different things.. you said "without the 7 there it would be harder" so I am going by the 7 not being on the table, with the 6 as the last ball to get to the 8 bank. If the 7 is in a different spot on the table, then ya, you could be looking at some more safes.

Hang,
I am not a barbox fan at all.I am a big table player.9-ball,one pocket, straight pool,etc...however,when it comes to 8-ball,I much prefer it on the barbox. The reason for me is because of the amount of balls and the small size of the table. There's always challenges when faced with a runout.A lot of balls to navigate around, clusters to consider, when to duck and when to go for it,etc. That being the case,it requires very good position play and a great touch, not to mention the knowledge of knowing what to do and when.

i havent played on a barbox in years, thinking about it 8Ball might be better on the barbox, dealing with the traffic jams, clusters etc. for 9ball I have zero interest in playing it on a barbox unless i'm in action-I dont forsee that.,

i'm a snooker player at heart I think the 12' box, the reds, and rotation components(2-7) of snooker make it the best game period, snooker to me looks like what pool (9 ball and 14.1) would evolve into, its just a advanced combined form of the games we play here in the USA. I have not played it in years because there arnt any tables around any more, but i solved that and am getting one in Vegas in a couple months. but i am a 9 ball player cause thats whats arond and I like it, but the 8ball thing has had me thinking recently.

I had a similar scenario as below come up for me the other day. I'm solids and my opponent under-estimated the trouble he was in as stripes. When he deliberately allowed me back to the table, without hesitation I began firing away and ran out.

I'm sure many of you will see it immediately but I guess my point is to get others to think outside the box a little.

I would have played it the same way you did....unless I am up 4 to 0 in a race to 5, in a regular season match. Then, I might try to shoot the seven from a little angle, and get the cue ball to glance the 8 and 10 to get my CB tracking fine tuned....and set up a 8 ball shot in the head, left corner pocket.
If it is regionals or nationals, then I'm going for the high percentage shots....no fancy stuff.

I was driven to post this, based on your "most of you will see it immediately" comment. I don't even see the diagram immediately! Nothing against cuetable, just showing what you'll see if you do not use MacOS or "Windows". Oh, and of course you can't download a suitable plugin.

Please check http://pl.cuetable.com/showthread.php?t=714 , someone has got CueTable to work on a Linux machine. :)

CueTable Help

I know this thread is a little old, but I thought I'd toss my two pennies in anyway.

As stripes, I like this shot leaving the cue ball as close to the rail as possible, and tying up the 7 with my 12 ball. It breaks up my cluster, and ties up a ball where I've got just as good a shot at breaking out the trouble as my opponent.

That doesn't solve all of the problems, but it's a start. Aainst a lot of people I figure to get another turn at the table, which is all I ever ask :D
