Another big $1,000 entry 600 and under tournament...

Dominick Dunn is playing on the live stream right now. He's also the tournament Director.

Should be fun to watch

He can be a little bit of a mess and is very expressive when he plays.

The question is always what the over/under is as to how many shafts he'll break during the course of a tournament. 😂

Sheesh! The commentator said he was on the way home from a billiards tournament, and two guys were fighting at a stop light. One of them pulled out a gun and started firing, and a bullet went through the commentator's front windshield and hit him in the face. He had surgery to close the wound, and they left the 9mm slug in his head.

Don't think you'll hear a story like that from JJ

Yep. That was earlier this year.

He was back commenting on pool in something like three days.

Like I said, he tends to talk a lot, but I like that it's just kind of entertaining talk and not trying to second-guess or analyze every little detail of the match itself.

Fargo is still a sample of all league and tournament matches. Anybody want to guess what that percentage is?
I like Fargo and participate but my guess is the winner of this tournament is underrated by about what Island Drive said.
If they win a tournament, they are probably shooting at the higher end of their performance range. I've heard a +/-50 is typical, so they are almost certainly outperforming their fargo.

It just occurred to me that one way to manipulate a fargo rating would be by lying about the score. Claim you won 6-4 when it was really 6-2, or you lost 1-6 when it was 3-6. It still seems like a lot of work for little to no payoff.

Scores are verified through the bracket by both players so very tough to manipulate that way but it is possible.

What time does it start tomorrow and what is the link ?

These things are getting pretty common now. Only reason is FargoRate, players feel they have a shot. One coming up in OkCity and another in Vegas after that.
This is why I think FargoRate is excellent. One thing that golf has is the handicap system. That allows for all kinds of amateur tournaments. From small local ones to events people will travel for. Golf has great courses in spots with nice weather so people can travel and enjoy the course and the weather- say organized event in winter- and have a tournament. The pool industry needs events where people are willing to put up money and play. FargoRate is facilitating this and will continue to do so. I haven’t had the chance to go to any of these events. Yet. Looking forward to going to some in the coming years.

Bar boxes are a great equalizer that’s why everyone loves them
Makes for a game that people are willing to pay to enter. Invention of point spreads increased sports gambling. Craps at 1.4% edge gets bigger wagers than Keno etc…

The issue is the same as all other rating systems, cheating. I'm sure there is not many stats on exactly how many players deliberately dump games and miss shots to stay low, but my money, going by what I see and hear, is at no less than 25% of all players in leagues and tournaments. No one pays $1,000 or even a couple of hundred for an entry unless they feel they are a at least half a level over the rest of the field if they are not just gambling junkies. This is why I avoid tournaments for anything more than like a $40 entry where I just view it as some fun competition, I'm not giving my money to cheaters. For 600 level it can actually be pretty tough to know who is who for correct rating because a 600 is very capable of stringing 2/3/4 racks, which is also what a 650 or a 700 can do.

For whatever it's worth, I personally know and have played 20 of the entries. I consider their Fargo ratings to be pretty damn reasonable and accurate. As Fargo rate itself will tell you, any of them can play up or down 50+ points in any given match/tournament. Just as you and I can.

None of them throws away their money and all thought they had a solid chance, but nobody could possibly think that they were stealing.

A pretty even spread throughout the tournament as to where they finished, with the best finishes 9–12 and 17-24.

9-12 got paid right at $7,000 with Calcutta and side pots.
