I've only played about 4 years and I'm still open to what kind of cue is my favorite. I thought I'd found the perfect cue for me when I started playing a Pechauer Pro series, but recently just for grins I bought a Pechauer JP series cue. They're a little less expensive because they don't use exotic hardwoods, just stained maple, and they use an implex rather than a stainless-steel collar. I had it custom stained which Pechauer did for no charge, and now that I have it it's my favorite. It has a slightly larger butt diameter and a slightly different feel than the Pro Series, but it is now what I take when I go to Leage competitions. It plays almost exactly like my Keith Josey, at about half the cost and just a few weeks lead time for a custom stain. Pechauer is a great company to work with and they make really high-quality stuff for very reasonable prices. I used to have a lot of cues; buying and selling can be interesting and you can learn a lot trying out different manufacturers, but I'm done with all that now. Pechauer Pro, JP, and my Keith Josey. I don't need to try anything else.

What is the hit difference between the two? Is one softer than the other?
Can you specify the butt size on Pechauer cues? If so, in what range? 1.22-1.30 inches?
I had a Pechauer cue with their own version joint.
I called them and asked if it was available on any aftermarket shaft and the guy laughed and said nope you have to buy a shaft from us.

I have one from them as well, custom made and only used a couple of times. I wanted the same cue allison fisher has been using the last year or so, and pechauer told me it was theirs, and hence, this cue as pictured. I eventually found out the actual cue is a custom OB cue, and thankfully they made me one literally just before they sadly closed down. I dont use the pechauer and am torn on whether to sell or just keep it.
That's not true though. I'm sure whoever answered the phone tried to keep you in-house, but I bought a Predator 314 from Seyberts that fits my Pechauer perfectly. I prefer the Pechauer Pro+ LD shaft, though.
Hard to say. The JP may be a little softer than the Pro series due to the flat-faced implex joint, but it's subjective, of course.
It was 15 years ago when I called them.
I asked their customer service (which is outstanding) once what the different butt diameters are for the cues they make, and they sent me the following:
Pro .850 (joint) 1.245 (butt)
Jp .850 1.265
Pro H .850 1.270
I agree it would be nice if they used a more commonly accepted joint, but it is what it is and still they're my favorite.
Thats fine to like their cues they make a fine product, I just did not like the person's arrogance I spoke to.
Last year I tried a Pechauer JP with the white implex joint. Had a 1" juma ferrule. One of the stiffest hitting cues I've ever shot with. Was like a metal rod. When I would draw the ball or put a good stroke on it for a stop shot from distance the shaft/ferrule made this horrible noise like it was going to crack. I even took it to a local cuesmith who said there was nothing wrong with it. I returned the cue.
I have never experienced that.
I was disappointed. I had bought my dad a pro series merry widow and he loves it. So I tried a jp series.
