Another Mystery Cue

Sherm, are those WICO (plastic) veneers? The pics are showing up somewhat out of focus. Veneer colors look like they could be plastic.

Yes this is one of Gus's first pointed cues. Within 10 minutes of my posting these pics Barry S called me on the phone. He'd recognized it right off the bat and wanted to make sure I knew what it was. Actually my buddy who owns the cue told me that he'd gotten several cues (6-10) in Gus' early years but kept going back to this one. It's a 21.5 oz cue which will feel great to some, but too heavy for others. Barry told me that Gus bought 12 of the Wico blanks but he believes only about half of them turned out into cues.
It was nice to reminise a little with Barry a little about his Dad. As Barry said, Gus was like a big bear! Some days a Grizzley. others a big Teddy Bear. That's about as good of an analogy as I've ever heard!

What a fantastic and incredible find. This is a very, very historic cue, because it's look obviously bridges the gap between Doc Fry's style and Gus's own. This clearly would be one of his very earliest cues, otherwise he would have used his own blank.
Once thing I found was that the history of the various makers during that era were all inter-mingled and truly hard to separate. Gus was heavily influenced in his work by Doc Fry, Palmer, and Balabushka. He eventually took it to the stratosphere, but these early cues were his stepping stones to greatness.
