Another old Cue I.D. thread.

After seeing a week or so ago about the "I.D. my Cue" and it turned out to be a possible Bushka or something, it got me to thinking about an old cue my Dad gave to me in the late 70's. Now let me say this up front, I have very low expectations here, but worth a shot at any possible information about it. Whether it's worth $1 or $2,500, I will not part with this cue ($15k would raise an eyebrow though, lol. So safe to say it's not going anywhere real soon :rotflmao: ).

There are zero identifying/branding marks on the cue anywhere, nor was there any when the cue was given to me when disco was a dying fad. The butt and shaft still roll true, which amazes me after sitting in a case in storage for almost the last couple decades. With all of that said, see the photo's below. Don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings any if it turns out to be an elcheapo cue, regardless it plays fantastic and means the world to me.

Back Story if interested:

This was my Dads cue for years and one of the first cues I ever played with. He gave the cue to me roughly around 1980 (give or take a couple years), it was his playing cue for as long as I can remember before that (I'm just over 40 now). I quit playing with it roughly in the late 80's as I acquired newer cues and it become a sentimental hand me down. I had all but forgot about the cue until that thread.

Story has it, from an elderly family member he played with this cue for many years, possibly going back to the mid to late 60's (however their dementia could be skewing the story some here so take the dates with a grain of salt). He "Thinks" this is a cue he won off of a player who come into Pops bar and gambled down to his last dollar and the cue as well. It sounds like a movie script to me but who knows (cool story Bro!). Thanks for your time and any insight into what this Cue might be. More pictures can be taken if the needed, let me know.

My guess is you will never find out who made that cue. It is not a production cue, someone did make it. Every guy who has even fooled around with building cues as a hobby has made something like that at one time or another. The first cue I ever built was made from a house cue with borrowed parts salvaged from a broken cue. I reused the joint and butt cap. I even drilled some holes and made dot inlays.

That is what that cue reminds me of, a cue a guy made who was not really a cue maker. Even the bevel on the butt cap looks like work done by a guy using wood turning tools. I remember having guys come in the pool room with cues they had made themselves on a wood lathe that were surprisingly good. One guy told me how he had tapered it with a small belt sander while having it spinning on his wood lathe just using feel.
I wish you luck on your quest for information but that is what your cue reminds me of.

You are going to have to trace it's origin. What town did the cue come from. That may be a start.

Thank you for your feedback. I spent the last few nights looking at older cues on various sites looking for any tell signs or similarities, needless to say I didn't find any so I posted it here at the risk of "Nice Sears & Roebuck Cue from the early 70's you got there", which would not surprise me in the least.

The cue certainly lacks in any signs of "quality in detail or materials used". I've always assumed it was a house cue conversion of sorts. Amazingly it has stayed straight despite being stored in less than ideal environments over the years. It does have a solid hit to it, I just need to install a fresh tip. Unfortunately the origin of the Cue is forever unknown due to how it was acquired, it could have come from anywhere before ending up in Columbus, Ohio. I appreciate your feedback.
