Another question on setting up table for lathes

I've decided to use (2) 3/4 in pieces for the top thats I'll glue and screw together. What I'm looking for is recommendations of what to use between these 3 options.

3/4 Oak plywood
3/4 MDF
3/4 Particle Board with Melamine top

I'm kinda leaning towards the Oak ply with the Melamine on top. I think this would give me a solid and rigid base (oak ply) and a top thats pretty scratch resistant and easy to clean up.

Balance

If you can try ,to use the same on top and bottom for balance .When I did mine I used a laminated substraite ,then painted the top with a with high gloss it cleans up nice Just my 2..:thumbup:

Keep away from mdf and partical board. When they get damp move all over the place.
Oak ply or marine ply is alot better.

You know, It's funny You should mention that. I have some car speakers on order for my old lady's car, and one set is gonna be a little too large for the factory speaker adapters to work with them.

Anyhow, I was thinking of making some spacers out of MDF, but since they are going in the doors, I started to worry about just getting the standard kind of MDF from the home improvement places, for the fear that if they got wet they would expand or deteriorate.

Then I started to think, well what If I sealed the MDF spacers off with epoxy? wouldn't that create a water barrier, keeping the moisture from getting inside the MDF, therefore preventing any such future issues?

Birch ply is expensive but one of the best ply's to use. Laminate the top or wallmart sells an epoxy paint for covering old formica tops the stuff is so tuff we threw soup cans at it and it didnt chip.
