The question is, when cushions go bad do they always get hard as a brick (as in

no bounce) or can they get mushy soft as well?

My Gandy has a cushion on it that is really soft to the touch even, therefore when

a ball is hit into it, there's never any telling which way the ball will go.

Yes, they can become soft as a sponge, bad cushions as well.
