just keep putting out a quality product and people will talk about your cues, more happy customers means more free advertising. like any business' reputation it takes a bit of time.

another good way is to try and build a sneaky pete(that way you arent out a whole lot of money), and put it in the hands of one of the pro's from this forum(which there is a few TOP NOTCH players that post here). Once they have hit with the cue and done an evaluation on it then word will spread real quick. As if you get great feedback from one of them then many people here will start requesting cues from you. Thanks just my 2 cents worth. I hope you the best of luck with your cues as well.

Thanks, Mark

Tough way to make a living.

There are at least 100 cue builders in the country that build a cue that plays and hits top notch but only those players in their local area know about them.

There's no easy answer to your question but GOOD LUCK.

To start off would be to build a high quality cue at a reasonable price. So you can get them out in the market. Word of mouth is the best advertising. Most good players will always be looking for that specail cue. So it's very common for players to let other good players hit a few balls to try a cue out.
I will be looking for someone playing with one of your to see If I can test hit a few balls since I live in the cincy area.

Some great inputs so far from my fellow members.

Another area to consider is access to information and pictures...In other words a web page.
Maybe one of our fellow members can help you get started with a few pictures and get a web page going.
The offers on the free cues is awesome so hopefully that will get the ball rolling and hopefully the positive reviews will bring in some follow up business.

Wish you a great deal of success,
Myron

Please check your PM. I've sent you several tips. I also agree with alpine9430. A good website and pictures of your work will help alot. It will give ideas about your work. Also put a price list and Warranty on your work won't hurt either.

Good luck and God Bless.

If you listen to any advise, listen to the one above. A "nice" web presence is worth it's weight in gold. But don't do it halfway, a bad webpage is probably worse than not having one at all. First impressions are the key and if you have a cheap site, then people will think you have cheap cues.

I do website design, mostly for friends and myself. Here are three that I have designed.

This one is new and still adding material and links:

These two are my personal sites

If you ever want some advise on setting one up, feel free to contact me.

Introductory offers have been very successful on the board- the users of the board are very appreciative of AZ billiards deals or even limited editions. For example

1. ER limited editions
2. Sherm DCC cues
3. Murnak case intro for Vintage Line
4. Joe Rackem discount for Azers
5. Varney "Daytona Joe" cue
6. Ernie Martinez cues- there is a line

I would consider doing 10 cues for AZers in a special makeup at a fair price- things like that seems to work. People will write positive things about your cues if they are a good product for the money. Also, you need photos on the board- everyone really wants to see the cue- or even the cue's progress. See BCM for examples of this- he puts out solid photos that generate a lot of buzz.

Excellent point, Peter.

Speaking of....I take it you like the Varney?? :)

I think I remember you mentioning something about it in another thread....

J&D Customs - Putting your cues in the hands of some AZB'ers will DEFINITELY get your name spread around. If you make a solid product, and back it up with a fair warranty, the word will spread like WILDFIRE!

Well heck- you found AZ and there's alot of 'CueJunkiees' here... so a fair price, nice workmanship and a solid hitting cue with good customer service and relations will bump start ya... Az'ers talk alot and know alot of the pool community across the nation/world... :-)

Posting pictures of your cues would help.

Offering a 'special' limited price to AZers to get the cue into the hands of some of the players here would also help.

A lot of cues have caught my attention due to the positive reviews written by AZ members.

Good luck!

The Varney is a great cue- well done. I wanted a break jump so I sent it to him and he is making me a new break jump and taking the other one back. Great guy to deal with. Hope you are happy with the Jensen. If you liked your bluegrass then you should try and Rick Howard- he makes a good one.

Sponsor a Tour and get great publicity also!

Check out the Gateway Amateur 9-Ball Tour in the St. Louis area. I run the Tour and all I ask for from cue makers is 1 cue valued at $500 or higher (or you could send a couple cues to equal $500 or over).

Thanks and good luck,
Zim

Start by conquering your home market. Youve got to take care of home first. If you can build a good base there then you can branch out. Im from Indianapolis and I know your are new but I have not heard of your work. If you can get maybe some cues in the hands of locals that will help too.Maybe next year at state, get a booth. Then you can try and reach that market and go from there. What are your price points? Thanks

You're at the right place, AZ is full of people dying for a *DEAL* all they care about is price, they can easily lie about the hit and the quality when they try to resale it. You will notice a few people who will not shut up about how great certain people's cues are, it's not hard to see which posters have agendas. That's a short term AZ answer to your question, but the truth is build a quality cue and build a local fan base, if your cues are good the word will spread. Or just take advantage of the sharks here.

Jim

Thanx for all of the advice. We are working at getting pictures together and putting them with the price lists. We have a really good fan base around our immediate area and the next step is going into Indy and Cincy. So keep looking for us, we'll be there. Thanx again for the advice.

Just do right, and do it the way you want or need. Popularity will grow. Any or all advices can be gold or just a grain of salt. Just get your name in print and in the public minds. Good luck!!
