Antler for sale Ferrules/crafts?

First are some round blanks that I turned, and culled from My stock of keepers. I've been going through several pieces of antler, and only keep the whitest most solid ferrules for My own stock. Otherwise if It's not near perfect, and doesn't look and feel like Ivory, It gets tossed in the seconds pile, with the exception of a few brown pieces I keep for that rustic look. I want to be clear that to some people these may not be great ferrules, but some others may be happy to get a deal, and have some use for them. If nothing else maybe they would make good carving beads. Some will have some pithing that may show through when turned, so they would have to be sealed off well with Ca or something after installing them if used for ferrules(a couple of the blanks have already been test sealed). I think one of them has some spider webbing on the outside that may or may not cut out. I just want to be clear in that these are not what I consider grade A, but My opinion could be subjective in what I keep. I only get a few personal keepers from a rather large amount of antler, so I'm really picky in what I keep. Most of these rounds are sized in range from over 13mm to over 14mm, with about 3 of the smallest being between 12mm and 13mm. The lenths are random, and I put a tape measure in one picture to give something to gauge them by, but a couple of them are around 1-1/2" or longer in lenth, and may produce two 3/4" ferrules per piece.

I'm sorry to do this, because I know people like a set price, but I have no idea what these are worth to someone, so I'd rather let you guys decide. feel free to make an offer. I don't expect top dollar for them, so offer what they are worth in this thread, and the best offer + shipping gets them.

I take Paypal, and there is no handling charge added to shipping. I only charge exact shipping to the address provided. US shipping only Please.

Offers are for both the round dowels & box of antler pieces combined.

Greg

This is a box of antlers pieces that were culled before turning. IMO there are no usable pieces for ferrules, joints or butt caps, but who knows. Maybe some could be bandsawed for inlay slabs, I'm not sure, but I have plenty of that in My own stock if I need any for that in the future. There may be some pieces that could be used to make pocket chalkers, knife handles or tool handles, whatever someone can up with to use them for crafts, but that would depend on the individual's requirements.

Note, This is a mix of different pieces, but a few pieces are really chalky, and some may even have cracking, and some look to have a varnish or laquer apllied to them. see picture for example, as This is what's up for grabs. The whole box in the picture is between 6 and 7 pounds. I will round over the weight to 7pds for a shipping quote.

I'm just trying to clean out some space, and thought maybe someone else can use this stuff. If not maybe I'll use them to put buckhorn handles on some of My hand tools:grin-square:

Your offer is for both the lot of dowels and the box of antler pieces

Thanks, Greg

I've had a couple of people PM me because they didn't know what to start the offer at, and I don't know Myself what this stuff is worth, just that's It's not up to my very high standards. The people that have showed interest so far seem more interested in both lots together, so I think I am gonna combine this into one lot.

I would Like to thank Ken for starting things off.

Any new offers will be for both the ferrule rounds and the box of antler pieces.

I will let this run for a day or 2, then give a 12 to 24 hour cut off notice, and whoever has the highest offer at the end of that time period gets It.

If no one else makes an offer. then Ken gets It, because I have no bottom line price in mind. I've tried to give the best, most honest description I can, so I'm just gonna let you guys decide what It's worth to You.

Thanks for the interest. Curent Offer for everything combined is- $50.00 The current high offer is from cuebuilder

I'm gonna go ahead and get the clock started on this one. Just want to get this done with, and get this stuff out of here, so 24 hours from the time of this posting I will no longer take any offers on this stuff. At that point in time, the highest offer that's closest to the deadline will get the goods.

I just want to ask that anyone putting in an offer to Please read the description well, so You know what your getting. Especially the description of the antler pieces in the box. I tried to describe it in a way that people will expect the worse, by saying I didn't feel any ferrule, joint, or butt pieces could be pulled from them, partially because of some with cracks, but even more so the pithing that alot of pieces have, or the porus middles (for Those people that don't know what I'm trying to describe).

I just skimmed through the box, and I found one piece that I missed when culling them that might make a joint. It was about .816 on the low sides, so centering would have to be near perfect, but It was a more solid piece then some of them, and not pithy as some. I also saw a couple of pieces that ferrules may be pulled from, but that would depend on the persons personal taste as if they would be acceptable or not. This was just skimming through at a glance, so there could be more pieces that would be worth turning to the right person, but I want to make clear the majority of that box won't produce anything usefull when It comes to ferrules or joint collars.

I just want to be honest and upfront with you guys. The person that gets them may laugh when they see them, thinking I played It down too much, but I figure if they expect the worse then they should be happier with what they get.:)

Thanks guys,

Greg
