Running XP, Firefox

Recently I have been unable to play youtube videos:confused::confused::confused:

Get message to activate Javascript and/or install current version of Flash.

Javascript is activated.

Flash player is the current version, confirmed by test on link provided by youtube.

Youtube has help videos on help pages.
They play fine on the pages
When clicked on to get full screen they crap out and give me the Javascript Flash message.

The video explaining how to activate Javascript in Explorer recommends using Firefox:grin:

I have Explorer
Youtube doesn't work there either.:(:(:(

Apparently I am not the only person having this problem - lots of nasty comments on youtube forums.

Youtube videos found on google work fine on the google page.
All rather weird considering that google owns youtube.

Any specific solutions? - detailed - I am a techno-idiot.

Thanks

When I have those kinds of problems I just go out and buy a new computer.

A newer bigger better faster more powerful computer is usually cheaper than fixing the old piece of shit.

I was going to suggest that maybe you had a script blocker installed (like the noscript addon for firefox) that was blocking youtube, but then you said that multiple people were complaining about this on youtube forums.

Youtube is working fine for me in firefox, so I don't know what's going on.

I would suggest downloading google chrome to see if youtube works for you in that browser for the time being until someone figures out the problems you and the other people are having.

When did this problem start for you?

You tube

I use 'Flock' which uses the Firefox engine, and I do not have any problem.

Did just download and install a new Flash version though.

Could it be security issues? have you installed a new anti virus client lately?

Did you try re-loading the Java and Flash?

Good luck.. and when you do get it resolved, please share your findings.

thanks

Still not solved

In Tools - Add-ons

found two versions of Flash that were 'Enabled'

Disabled the outdated version
Removed the current version of Flash using the Adobe Uninstall rather than the Windows Add/Remove
Rebooted
Reinstalled Flash
Rebooted

Problem unchanged:(:(:(

Could you post a screen shot of what is shown when you try to watch a youtube video?

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

shows up where the video should be. "Get the latest Flash player" is a hot link.

You're using firefox, so did you recently install a script blocker such as the noscript addon for firefox?

I had this same problem. I tried downloading the newest version of adobe flash. That didn't fix it. I enabled everything that could be in settings. Still wasn't able to load some videos. For awhile I gave up and just used my aol browser when I wanted to view videos on youtube. I did find out that my problem was I was using an outdated version of windows IE. After I upgraded the videos would load. You might want to try a windows update and see if that works for you.

Youtube now running when I tried it this afternoon

To the best of my knowledge, nothing I did eight days ago fixed it.

Assume the problem must have originated in youtube, not my computer.

Or maybe I am an idiot savant of technology

Try this solution someone else posted elsewhere :)

"I fixed mine after hours of frustration. What I had to do was go into my Internet Exporer and then go to where you install the Adobe Flash Player. When I got to the installation screen I clicked on "Different operating system or browser?" and selected Windows Vista/XP, then I selected Firefox. After it finished installing I opened up my Firefox and it immediately played everything with the Flash Player."
