Any extensions that natively work with Schon?

Hope this is okay to post here. I figured cue makers might have actual knowledge, instead of hoping someone else is crazy enough to try this.

I'm looking for extensions for my wife and I who both have Schon cues. We'd definitely like them to be quick release, and we aren't willing to pay huge sums of money for them since we mostly play on bar boxes these days and won't use them all that regularly. I know Rick Roper has a stellar reputation for making them, but I reached out and he's taking a break for now. So, I'm still looking, and I got to wondering....

I believe the Schon weight bolts are 3/8 x 16 which if my googling skills are reliable is a relatively standard size for other production cue makers. It got me wondering if I could just use something like a Jacoby or Joss or even Viking weight bolt/extension combo to achieve a cue with the same weight/balance I have now, as well as adding a quick release extension.

Does anyone know if this will work? Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Thanks, that's the Rick Roper I referenced who's not currently working. I already reached out to him.

Without a custom made item that will hold the buttcap in place as well as the extension and bumper, you risk damage to the cue. An extension can put a lot of leverage on the buttcap if you were to drop it or bump it wrong and the connection is mostly just the weight bolt.

If Rick has quit making them, it will be a real loss. Not only was he fantastic to work with, but he also made a fantastic product and was just a great person to deal with. While My Schon extensions from him were his earlier design, they were fantastic, and very reasonably priced. I even had him do some custom modifications lightening a couple up some, and he took it on as a challenge, shipped them out in less than a week and didn't charge any extra.
Anyway, I had herd he switched over to quick release awhile back. With Schons, I'm sure the weight bolt needs to be in for the support of the butt cap. While the butt cap doesn't fall off when taking the weight bolt out, I'm sure some form of it needs to be there. While his original design had an inner screw that screwed into the back of the weight bolt, I am not sure about his latest design.
I just went and looked at some quick release bumpers I had gotten from Atlas, I think. They look exactly similar to, but without the step in it for inside the butt cap that the Quick release one Rick sent me a picture of that he was using now. There is a small hole down the middle. I then got a spare Schon bumper screw, and while it wouldn't go through, that hole, looks to be about the size needed to thread for the Schon bumper screw to mount it to the weight bolt. I'll look to see if I still have the picture of what Rick was using, but I realize now how he probably did it.
Found the pic

Looking more at the picture he sent me of his new design, I really don't think it actually needs a weight bolt as the step would push against the inside of the but cap. You would then use weight bolts similar to Jacobys if needed. Atlas in picture

Thanks for this insight. I was looking at something like this from Jacoby that might replace the weight bolt and bumper, which seems like it should fill up the butt cap. I should have probably posted some pictures with my question to make it more clear what I was considering. I also see the cuefits site down below that seems promising.

Thanks for both of these! I heard great things about Rick's work. Appreciate the insight and taking the time to find the pics!

No good, the buttcap is way too deep. Have you removed the bumper and looked at it?
This is a Schon before I put an extension bumper in it.

I have removed the bumper, but haven't been able to remove the weight bolt yet. I just don't have a suitable piece of metal to slot into the bolt. It's an aluminum bolt, so I don't want to mess around with screw drivers and such and jack up the slot. This pic is helpful though. I see what you mean by making sure to fill that cavity with something that supports the butt cap.

That Atlas picture I posted with the top silver one looks a lot like the picture that Rick sent me. You are going to have to get that bolt out before you can do anything. One word of advice, especially if it is tough unscrewing is don't just grab the cue and twist that as you could crack the finish where the butt cap joins up to the cue. Make sure to grab the butt cap fully.
I had one of my Schons that I couldn't, or didn't want to try that hard to remove the bolt, so as we go by their place when we visit family I just stopped in and had them remove it the first time. They have a flat driver blade permently mounted and just hold the cue with both hands and twist. Some have to be heated first but I have not encountered that with the 4 that I have.
That Jacoby extension is a no g as to their bumper working.. I have one of those for a Jacoby of mine and there is no way it would fit.
I think there is one other person on the Schon facebook group that makes extensions, but Ricks were so nice.

The original Jacoby bumper extension is short but it can be used in my cues. I liked the idea of a quick release better

Here is that exact Jacoby bumper you show on a Schon. This is why I said it will not work on a Schon. The inset on a Schon butcap is .380, the Jacoby rubber is about .380, then it needs to stick out about that much also. Your cues must not be Schons. Nice cues though.
