I have this Jiss Gray Merry Widiw that has a white butt cap that doesn’t have a bane or logo , only place it is marked is the butt collar stainless has JOSS & serial # …

If it has a serial number, just check with Joss, it would be recorded. No need to guess or estimate. Why is the year important? They are all the same value, only thing that would change it is condition and fanciness. A 5 yr old Joss is worth as much as a 20 yr old one for the same model.

I have an ‘86 Joss with the year on the butt collar.
Do you mean butt plate, or joint collar?

Other than 1968 or so when Bill was practicing engraving, I'm not aware of an original Joss that didn't have the Joss engraving on the butt sleeve. The mid 80s did see the Joss emblem and year on the joint collar.

Confirmed With Stephen Janes , They made the cue ( same model is still in production) this cue was made for J&J cues & sold thru them THE JOSS SERISL NUMBER TELLS ALL , Stephen asked what I paid $100.00 he chuckled as the cue sold rather & now for $450.00 , great player cue 👍✌️😎

they really had two kinds of cues in my mind which could be wrong but some were custom cues made for individuals which were very good in general. and production cues that went out to the general population. those werent so special.

The joint collar on the butt. I have a ‘68 Joss with the big block letters on the butt plate.

Butt plate and joint collar are two different things. Butt plate is all the way to the bottom of the cue, and once Bill Stroud could do it, they got engraved on the butt plate. The joint collar, at that time, were the typical boxes and railroad looking crosses at the joint. The name Joss didn't come to the joint collar until about 1984, with a plain black joint collar.
