Great old sneaky pete.

Looks like alves into maple with a finish that has yellowed.

Thin black and silver rings below the joint and above the derlin butt cap.

Piloted 5/16 x 14 pin with with a wood collar that looks like it was cut from a really nicely figured piece of rosewood or some kind of burl... Has a beautiful tortoise shell look to it.

Pilot is a lot like the older Scruggs sneakies. Very tight and solid connection.

Phillippi?

Came out of the Carolinas, so, I guess old Hurricane is an option.

Thoughts?

Is it for sale? 🤔😊

What are you offering... Heard back from Bob Frey. He said it was hard to tell from the pictures, but it could be one of his.

I’m sure he’s busy, and I don’t know if I want to be the one to press the issue.

So... A local “cue guy” suggested it might be a Szamboti.

Let’s just say that I’m very skeptical, but it’s a tantalizing idea.

Should I reach out to Barry, or would I be wasting his time?

Thanks

I dont think Szamboti ....
The pilot nipple on the shaft STRONGLY RESEMBLE SCRUGGS / FRYE CUES
Not Szamboti-
Same thing with the joint pin"
IMO

Stop talking to that guy about cues forever

Even better, sell him the cue for $500 and let him get it authenticated

I don't think that would have made Gus's qc.
Sorry, if that is still straight, it's a little short of a miracle .

It actually is straight, and plays really good even with the cracked wood joint.

I knew the pin wasn’t right, but found a cue in the “Sneaky Pete“ thread here in the gallery that looked enough like my cue to ask... Like I said, “very skeptical.”
