Any of you start out like this?

I was killing my time looking at cue building videos and stumbled upon this:

I guess they aren't aiming for greatest accuracy in what they do, but I didn't think there would be people using wood lathes for building cues professionally.
Way back in 1994 when I first start I used to offset the tail stock and use a single point to turn my cues down. Similar to what there doing in video. Boy oh boy was that time consuming.
 
I started out in 1988 with just a wood lathe with hand held tools and built my first few cues that way.
