Any trouble with Kamui Black Softs recently?

The ones without the clear pad.

Used these tips for years and have always had the same person install them and recently I started having some trouble with them. About 4 months ago I had one installed and it gave a loose sounding hit, like there was something wrong with it. Cueball didn't really react right and it felt a bit loose as well. Had that one cue off the next day and a new one put on and it was all good.

Come to last weekend its time for a new tip again, I go back to the guy that has been doing my tip work for about 10 years now and has installed dozens of Kamuis for me. I have a new one put on. Same loose sound and loose feeling hit. We chop it off and immediately put another one on. Same thing.

At this point I'm at my wits end. I go back to the tip I was using before Kamui (Tiger Sniper) and it hits solid and accurate again.

Anyone else have a similar experience with them recently? If anyone else were to bring this topic up, I would probably say it was the installer, however this guy has been installing Kamuis for me since the Black came out and before the clears were even a thing and it this just started happening recently. The tips aren't cheap, I don't want to have to buy a bunch to find a good one and I have already wasted a good amount of money on them.

I have had the same issue a couple times with black Kamuis and I no longer keep them in stock at all. Something weird going on with them lately as I am sure that the tips were authentic and I know how to properly install a tip

Interesting. Yes I knew mine were authentic as well as they had the SN sticker that I cross checked on Kamui's site and came from a reliable source. Wonder if anything changed in the tip making process recently for them.

I think the quality has dropped off. I had a couple split end of last year having used them without any issues before. Gave up on them, as they're too expensive to keep replacing.

They always firm-up at least one hardness number and too many(for me anyway) glaze over too quick. I'll take an Ultraskin or Thoroughbred anytime over a KB.

I went through several Kamui tips and really tried to like them. Kamui to me is a high maintenance woman that just lays there. I've been tempted to try a Zan, but sticking with my triangle tips.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure most of us, like myself, are pretty anal when it comes to our equipment. We know what to expect out of it and when it doesn't perform how you want it can be frustrating.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.

I'll send you an SIB Pro tip to use and you'll be delighted

Thanks for the offer.

I've never heard of them. Do you have a link with more info?

Also, will you be at the expo? Just give it to me there and I'll buy you a beer or 3. Im not gonna switch again before the expo and don't want you to waste any money on postage.

Edit: Cancel that link. I googled it. Found some info. Seem interesting.

For the first time I have put on an Elkmaster milk dud. It is a little harder than an Elkmaster and I like it a lot.

I have been a Kamui dealer/installer for years and I personally think their quality has dropped on their standard brown and black tips. However the leather of the clear tips is much better and lately I have had customers have me use the clear tips but remove the clear pad. All of them are liking it much better than the standard ones.
