I sent an email to the moderator but didn't get a reply. It's just a little thing, but why is the 14.1 forum so low on the Main Category list that I can't even see it without scrolling down? It's below something called "AZB Kings" whatever the hell that is for crying out loud. It would be nice if 14.1 was put right below the Main forum. I think more people might pop into this forum if it had better visibility.

Can anyone pass this on to somebody in a position to make it happen or at least tell me to buzz off? Anybody want to second my nomination?

Oh wait, this is good for a poll question.

I can't vote in your poll because it doesn't contain an appropriate option for me.

I don't think 14.1 should be the #2 forum listed, because it is far less popular than several of the others. Look at the number of threads and posts for the various forums: http://forums.azbilliards.com/index.php.

Also, when you click on the "Forum Jump" arrow at the bottom right of a forum page, 14.1 shows up without scrolling up or down unless you are already in a forum that is lower on the list than "Seminole Florida Pro Tour." So I don't think moving 14.1 up higher on the list would make transportation between forums any easier.

In your list the "Non Pool Related" forum had more activity than many of those listed above it. Should we put non pool related stuff near the top of a pool website? I switch between 14.1 and the Main forum with the link near the top, and that's where you see AZB Kings etc. listed above 14.1 where you have to scroll down. It would get more hits if it were just under Main, or at least just under Tournament Announcements. It just seems to me a pool website should have the various pool forums listed first, then other things like tournaments, for sale and so on.

Straight pool is the original game, and many believe the best one. It didn't seem too much to me that it be given higher priority than others on that list.

Dan:

I can't vote in your poll, because it doesn't have an appropriate option for me, either. The options you give are too extremist. I don't think the 14.1 forum should be moved right underneath the Main forum, because that option is just plain elitist. (The Snooker and Carom forums would rightfully have a gripe with that -- e.g. "why would the 14.1 forum get a boost to such a high position in the list, when they're left stuck in the same position? What makes 14.1 'better' than Snooker or Carom?" You can see their point of view, from the very same position you're talking about the 14.1 forum.)

As for the AZB Kings and Raffles option, that one is too sarcastic for my tastes. I don't know what an AZB King is, but I don't pass judgement on it for precisely that reason. And, moving the 14.1 forum to above the Live Stream, Action Room, and Wanted/For Sale forums just ain't happenin', no matter how much lobbying you do.

However, if you had an option for, say, "move the AZB Kings and Raffles forums to further down in the list," I might go for that. But because you don't, I can't vote in your poll. Sorry!

EDIT: P.S.: don't get me wrong, I'd like nothing more than to see the 14.1 forum get higher visibility. But it's got to be in the interests of the moderators to do so. Merely saying "14.1 is the 'original' game and many believe the best one" and therefore "it didn't seem too much that it be given higher priority than others on the list" can be viewed as an elitist point of view. The 14.1 forum is currently the top-listed game-specific forum right now (ahead of snooker, carom, and Canadian pool in the forum list). I think we're asking a bit much to bump it even higher in the list.

Ummm...

Why not request a more dynamic environment that allows each user the capability to personalize the order of the forum links in whatever order they like? Sounds like a half decent idea, since disturbing the current order would make some members jump for joy and others to be surely PO'd.

Just a compromising suggestion.

Moving 14.1 Up

Ron - I think what you are proposing is great, but I doubt anybody will care enough to spend any time on programming.

Sean - I didn't think it possible to have an extremist view on how to list the forum topics. I think extremist is a bit extreme, no?

My post was admittedly a little snarky and meant with a bit of humor. But, C'MON let's get real. Look at The Action Room. I randomly looked at today's posts only. Of the seven posts, FOUR of them are about betting on football and baseball. Obviously this particular forum topic has gone in a direction not intended by the moderators of this billiard website. All I'm asking is that somebody bump 14.1 up a little, maybe even just one place so that at least it appears on the main page without scrolling down. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Now, while I'm on it, I still maintain that 14.1 should be placed right below the Main forum. 14.1 WAS pool for a good 75 years, and now there are people making great strides at bringing it back. Let's face it, straight pool is the soul of billiards. When people talk about hall of famers and the glory days of pool, The Hustler, Ames and on and on, all of those guys were playing straight pool. So I don't think it elitist to expect that maybe the 14.1 forum be bumped up even as high as the second category. I think it would probably attract a few more hits here and there, and more fans of 14.1 is good for everybody. Look at the fantastic post by Steve Lipsky who talked about his incredible break and run out. He also talked about his discussion with two of the world's best players relative to how you should carry yourself mentally in a competition. That's great insight that you just normally don't have access to. How many people in the Main forum have no idea that thread exists, and are missing out for not doing so? Move 14.1 up, and more people will see great threads like Steve's.

Vote YES on proposition 14.1!

Anyway, I didn't intend to become an evangelist on the topic, I just didn't want to have to scroll down!

I learned something interesting by accident today. At the top of the page it says AzBilliards Forums > Main Category. If I was in the Main forum and wanted to go to the 14.1 forum, I was clicking on Main Category and then scrolling down to find the 14.1 forum. Scrolling down is what got me started on this. Instead, if I click on AzBilliards Forums instead, then 14.1 pops up on the list without having to scroll down. The AZB Kings and Raffles forums are missing from the list, which bumps up the 14.1 forum. I don't quite understand the organization of these threads, but if I knew this earlier, I probably wouldn't have started this thread.

As Emily Littela would say.... "Nevermind!"

(But I still think 14.1 should be right after Main forum. :p)

I think this is a great idea Dan! I fully support it and think that it should be very easy for the moderators to do.
