Whenever I find myself in an unbreakable habit of scratching (which doesn't happen often) I've always used Irish 8 ball as a remedy.
For those not familiar, or those who know it by another name; Irish 8 ball is a game where you rack a normal 8 ball rack and break as normal. If you make a stripe then you are stripes. Your objective is to carom every stripe off the cueball into a called pocket. Of course your opponent will do the same with solids. For some unconscious reason, when you play your normal games (8,9, 10), you'll discover a huge decrease in scratches.
