I found out they are building a jillians here. How are they as far as pool rooms go. Are they more of a night club than poolroom.
thanks

We have one in downtown Boston, right behind Fenway Park.
It is a really cool place but probably not where the serious players are going to be. I think you'll like it though for a fun night out.

I hate pool rooms that play loud music.

I went to my first (and only) Jillian's when my hubby and I got stuck in Miami for a few days due to a huge snowstorm in the Northeast back in 1996. The room had a lot of tables, but they were in poor condition. Fantastic mahogany bar on an upraised platform for viewing the room, though.

OTOH, there's a Dave and Buster's that I went to in Phillyfor a private BD party and their tables were in excellent condition for not being a primary pool room.

I guess it depends on who's running the business.

im in evansville indiana[/QUOTE) There are a few more rooms in Evansville besides the bowling alley(which i'm sure your talking about Arc Lanes). There is O'Brians on green river road, 5-9ftrs., 3 or 4 bar boxes, then there's Roundabout on Franklin st. 2-9ftrs., 5 bar boxes, there's Fox N Hound, more of an upscale place. If you want action go to OBrians or Roundabout.
Casino Aztar is building a new hotel and Jillians is suppose to be part of it. When the people of Evansville voted the casino boat in they killed what little pool action their was around here.

I split time with Mario Cruz as house pro at that Jillians, it was 10,200 square feet of noise. High ceilings and wooden floors is a bad combo for the noise sensative...they also would promote live bands which contibuted to the LOUD factor. My "X" wife was on the opening team for Jillians, traveling around building these mega-party place featuring dance clubs, several food cafe's and entertainment areas...but they began to stray away from the pool. The Miami office was closed a couple of years ago by the corperation, the Boston Jillians is still owned by the original owner so no chance of coperate closing!!

There should be one in downtown Indianapolis already...close to Market Square Arena

More of a nightclub, at least the one here in Boston. It does have very nice GC tables, I've only been there during the daytime and it was nice and quiet then. I suspect it gets rather noisy at night especially when the college kids get back in town. It is also expensive by my standards, but it may be cheaper in your region.
But you know what, a nightclub is better than no place to play.

In Denver, I work about half a mile away from a Jillians (Golden). The only thing good I can say is that they give me a free hour of pool on their small Gold Crowns (OS 8s I think) for the purchase of lunch. It actually is pretty quiet as the pool room is in the back. The tables are also about an inch too short, I guess to accommodate the kids. All in all not too bad but truthfully we are more likely to drive to Brooklyns than go there.

There was one in New York ..on 14 st..

There is a Jillians in Hanover, Maryland that is pretty much the way Marissa described. The pool tables are seperated from the games which are separated from a somewhat small bowling alley.

It is actually a fun place with pretty nice pool tables (GC IVs). But not a serious pool hall.

There is (was?) one near or in Annapolis, MD. It's been about 4 years since I played there, but it seemed to be similar to a Champions Billiards. Nice tables, plenty of room, etc. Definitely had a 'pool' atmosphere even though it had a bar.
You are correct whitewolf. The location in Annapolis you are talking about was indeed a Jillian's. I think it was sold and is now called Sharky's (or something very similar). Sort of still a pool hall but with a little more emphasis on bands and partying. Lots of classic 9' Gold Crowns (not sure of model but earlier than the IV).

There may be some action as I know a player or two that used to hang out there.

However, it can get be a bit on the rough side (at least it was the last time I was there - about 4 months ago).
