Anyone ever heard of Shagrat Cues?

Craig Howell is the maker, from what I’ve been able to find. He/they are based out of Crawfordsville Indiana. That’s the extent of what I’ve been able to find. AZ search comes up empty, google search just comes up with an address.

Anyway, I went to the pool room last night to hang out and hit some balls. While I was there the owner showed me an old Bludworth he just picked up and a cue in his display case caught my eye—twelve points, six up (high/low) and six down (high/low). Wrapless with a really nice Birdseye handle. Ebony forearm and butt sleeve, Snakewood points with six veneers (double red, double white/natural, double blue), ringwork at all positions, a 3/8-11 pin, and 59” even split. I asked him what it was and he said some custom from Indiana, pulled it out of the display case, and told me to hit some with it.....I bought it.

I wasn’t even in the market for a cue but that damn thing hits so sweet I just couldn’t pass it up at the price he was asking for it, even though I have no idea who this cue maker is.

So has anyone here heard of Craig Howell or Shagrat Cues? Anyone play with one? I’d like to know more.
Pic of one from a yr. old FB ad: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1407071562934991/permalink/1682279075414237/ Nice lookin wand.

I saw a fellow selling several Shagrats at the expo last year. I was sweating the match in the action room when Walmart (Chris Robinson? I may be wrong about his name) was playing James Aranas getting the 8 in 10 ball.

This Walmart played an incredible set and winds up getting the cheese. I was standing behind some country looking dude, and it turns out to be his backer. I asked him what cue he was playing with since it seemed like a Southwest. In a deep accent he tells me it’s a Shag-rat, who is a local builder to them in Indiana.

The backer said he sold all his cues at the Expo save for a maple wrapless, which didn’t look too shabby. I checked out Walmart’s cue, and it was indeed a SW style, deep red cocobolo and uncored. The craftsmanship appeared to be spot on.

He said the funny name comes from a bar that is local to them, incidentally called the Shagrat, where the maker plays out of. There’s nothing funny about the quality of his cues. I saw the expired ad on FB for that same ebony/snakewood cue, and it looked damned nice.

Good pickup by you.

He has a FB page but its been inactive for a year. I sent him a msg just to see if he's still doin cues. Kinda curious myself.

UPDATE: he msg'd. me back and said he's not really doing cues currently. Sent me pics of his last three that were sold last weekend. All were the wrapless SW-style.
