Hi Fxskater

Will answer your call for local pool players.Am a old player[75] first played in Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton around 1943, joined navy 1949 retired 1974. didn't go near a table until early 90's while living in Nanaimo.at present have my own [new 4x8] table out in a newly rebuilt shed. all panelled ,carpeted on the inside. I,m no Efren Reyes for sure but I win a few. what I would like is some help to improve my game.you have a standing invitation to my home.I live about 25 miles east of Vernon[12 miles east of lumby] I play in local Legion tournaments and practice about 10 hrs per wk. Hope to hear from you

I played around abit in Kelowna a few times. Brady Gollan is from there, a seriously awesome player. I have played there quite afew times as I have family I visited there and checked out the scene. There is a really old dingy snooker room downtown that had some decent players there when I went there, got into some action with one of them. I suggest you simply check out the pool halls around the cities and watch the players for who looks like they may be good and know of the scene (although I would not expect alot of a scene). I do know that Kelowna is one city that has a decent sized tournament or two every year that pulls in players of top calibre from all over Western Canada.

Thanks for the reply's. Celtic I actually know the scene around here fairly well, i drive an hour and a half to kelowna at least once a week. This weekend there is a tournament there actually $2500 added at breakers. Horsfall, Potier, Kruger, Montel, Hager, and a few others are all registered.

Steve Mcneil:
Age or skill doesnt mean anything to me, I'll come play a few sets with you if i ever feel like driving an hour. I'm always looking to meet new poolplayers in my area. Check your PM's.

fx, do you have a complete list of players/info on this tournament? Do you know if Tyler Edey is playing? That is a pretty impressive list of players that are competing.

I looked at the list last night, but somehow i didn't burn all 54 players into my memory. It will be well worth your while to come down, remember this is a POOL tournament, 54 pre-registered is pretty damn good, you can usually double the pre registered players when the procrastinators put up thier cash. Tyler Eddy should be there, he is defending the last tourny there, so i can only assume for 2.5x added $$$ that he will show up.

Hmmm - I guess he won't be laying carpet this weekend then! I must give the bugger a call. More on topic though - I hope your tourney goes well - it's this sort of thing (reasonable costs, reasonable travel, good depth and worthwhile payouts) that will help the Canadian competitiveness more than anything else. There needs to be more between the regular local $500 special and travelling south for a week.

We used to have a decent amount of tournaments that were fairly big payouts and good fields in Alberta and area. I remember the days of the Dufferin tour when it gave us quite a few events over the course of a year and at least 10 more events were within 1000km's of Calgary that had $3000 added or more. The Northern Lights, the Great White tournies, the Dufferin tour, Medicine Hat had a good one, Lethbridge, Edmonton always had a could decent tournies, ect... Then we went into a stagnent period with nothing, all those events just disappeared and it indeed makes it tough for the top Canadian players to stay competitive with the worlds best when they dont have the proper level tournaments with the proper level races and payouts that are high enough to pull out the best in everyone and get the pressure up there. Hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel, another local tour, a Western Canada tour would be awesome to mimick the types of things already happening in the East where they have no better players and I would guess no more players of the level that would enter such events seeing what they draw there and knowing Western Canada will draw 50+ into any decent sized event with a good payout.

A Western Canada Tour is exactly what we need, there is definitely enough player interest all we need is someone who can afford to financially back such a tour. If I every won the lottery I would start something up like this in a heartbeat.

With that tournament now complete can you please post the top four finishers and any commentary on how the tourney went. Thanks, RJ
