I will be in Tinley park, IL tomorrow night and was thinking about stopping by Pro Time. I haven't been there since they opened it years ago.

I usually go to Red Shoes when I'm in town. I would love to meet some AZBer's if there's any interest.

pockets is a very nice place. i've been there a couple times and the tables play good. we used to kind of sponcer a very strong player (young guy at the time) named Rob Talchik who i think still works there. if you go to Red Shoes tell the old man J.Z. i said hi. :)

Are there two in Orland or are you talking about the first one in Alsip? I'm going to the one in Orland Park.

Oh yeah, the place off Cicero Ave. Yes, I've been there a few times. The last time Rob was behind the counter. I don't play anywhere near his speed but would love to play him some cheap 1p, just to learn a few things.

Who should I tell John Zacksas is saying hello? I probably will go by Red Shoes, that's where the 1p action is and John Lavin and I go back a long ways.

I don't play straight pool unfortunately. I see you're from Champaign? I went to U of I also. I heard they screwed up the student union pool hall a while back, too bad, it used to really be a nice room. That's where I started playing back in the late 80's.

NO KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I go to the U of I right now, yes they screwed up the student room, unfortunately. We are now merged with the bowling alley, we only have some 10 tables, 1 snooker table and 1 billiards table. However, we also have a full fledged billiards club right now that is keeping the pool spirit alive.

If you went to school in the 80s, you might remember Dave O'Rourke, Chris Span, or Chris Plummer. These guys are still around.

Drop by the U of I sometime!

BTW are you going to be in chicago for long? I am going to drop by Red Shoes next monday and Chris's on tuesday to see some friends...I was playing at RS mostly this past summer. Tell John Lavin I said hi, good luck for his tourney and that I will see him soon too.

BTW if you drop by ProTyme on thursday I think they still have the thursday 9 ball tourneys going on. You might catch Ike Runnels and a couple other A players.

If you drop by RS on monday or wednesday (?) you will catch a lot of the straight pool players...maybe people you know. Lavin plays in the monday one himself. I remember monday nights were the 1P action nights during the summer.

I play in the thursday night tourney, i got second 2 weeks ago, i might be there ill be the only kid shootin with a josey there.

Hey good job juniorchamp...that field can get pretty tough. Did Ike get 1st again? What are you rated over there? I've played there once but the timing was a little off for me, plus it was quite a drive. I also got rated as an "A" even though I am "B" speed...so I also knew it wasn't going to be doing too hot in it. I lost to an older big guy called Al in the first round, he's a solid A player.

Do you go to protyme often?
 
I dont remember his name, he was lationo, I am rated an C+ but thats from the first time i went. I would say iam a solid B. I met ike in the finals before it went hill hill but he came out on top.

Yes Al is a very good player; very smooth. I lost to him too. According to all the relevant metrics on AZ, I consider myself a C player, so when I got to Pro-tyme I think that's what I said, but I think they let me try a B. I felt I could play a B but it would be iffy. Then 4/5 through my match with Al they said I was playing too good and made me an A....lol....the moment I got bumped up I lost the game...we only had like 2 or 3 more racks to play, and that guy plays pretty strong!

Alex, if you are still going to be in Chicago next week, we could match up. I am going to shoot some on Monday night at Red Shoes and Tuesday during the day likely at Chris's or Pro-Tyme.

I won't be in next week. I'm off to Hartford tomorrow night. I'm sure we'll run into one another sooner or later. Talking about the union brings back some fond memories, I met my wife there. I started playing pool because I hated calculus and would skip it (it was at 8am in Altgeld) and I'd end up at the union playing pool and cards until they closed. We had a lot of top collegiate players then, 3 ACUI champions that I can think of. My wife was the female U of I champ for 2 years. Anyway, if I see the Johns tonight I'll say hi for everyone.
