Anyone know anything about brunswick slatite?

Hey guys , newbee here to the different types of table beds available. Have an opportunity to buy an old brunswick with what I believe to be a "slatite" bed. From what I've read online (which isn't a lot considering the lack of information on the subject) I have read that slatite is either treated press board , or encapsulated asbestos. Can anyone tell me exactly what this stuff is, and the pro's and con's of the stuff?? Thanks in advance.

Not sure but it sounds like all the other stuff thats not slate (slatex, slatron, etc) some sort of pressed wood product.

Pass on any table that doesn't have a slate bed. The thicker the slate the better, 1" should be a minimum thickness. 3/4" slate is available (found in Valley bar boxes) as an option on some Brunswick tables (it's cheaper)

A good used slate bed table can be found inexpensively in many cases for a few hundred dollars.

Look around, take your time, and get a decent table with a slate bed. If you're like me you are going to be using it daily. You'll want something that is a pleasure to play on.

Home tables that are of poor quality become laundry tables. A good pool table will never see anything on it's surface but felt and balls.

Go with quality, you won't be disappointed.
