these are custom cues i will post some pics when i return from the open.
they are from 1986 they are truely original.i am going to see a collector this weekend at the open and get his input.

Sheesh don't get that around...

But here is the skinny... a- not a lot of people collect from Joss' production years, so that value is minimal.. b- if the cues were indeed made for the players listed, then that adds some good value. A Joss from that era with some work maybe a 650-1500 dollar cue depending on the design and condition, but if its Varners cue I think it would (could) add about $1500/2000 to the cue. Earls the same. But getting the proof (provenance) is another issue, and the biggest thing is finding buyers. It amazes me that there are so few collectors that target players personal cues.

It is not Varner's personal cue. That one is for sale on another website from those years for $7000 and it includes the personalized case. The one I'm referencing is the one Nick won all of those tournaments with, etc, and it comes with a letter from Nick. These were the production models made by Joss this gentleman is referencing.

Since yer such a nice guy everyone is going to run over each other to help you out with this matter... I think yer best bet is to sell them at a pawn shop in Chicago Heights for $100 a piece... be sure to let me know which one you dropped them off at...

You have a nice cue there, but the fact remains that all of the Nick Varner models (modeled after his exact playing cue) were made with that inscription. I know of several people that own this same cue. The only person that owns the "exact" model Nick played with is being sold already. BTW, Nick didn't play with a smaller cue for his frame. He plays with a standard size cue.

i also have a 1986 joss cue made for earl strickland.it says e.s.on both shafts.

Cues customized for pros are hard to value. The cue is worth something, but the additional piece of info that it was made for a world champion or such is purely worth how much a collector or such would pay for it.

Nice collector's items though, pics would be nice.

I think Matt gave you sound advice on this cue, many cues are made by makers and never get into the hands of the player, many old time cues were made by Gina, Palmer and TAD and were claimed to have been the players cues when in fact they were given to the players and just sold. As it is now back in the day times were tough and pool players didn't make much money, they knew they could win with any cues so cash in the pocket was nice, plus they also knew they's always get more cue offers. What you need is what Joe V said, you need some proof that the cue was used (for a while, not just 2 weeks) by the player. The fact is his name on the shafts just isn't proof of anything. IMO these cues don't have much value, but they are nice pieces for your collection, congrats on them.

This is exactly what I'm saying. It has been overlooked that I said, I have SEEN the exact (and ONLY) Joss Nick played with. It is the Joss Nick won the 89 World Championships with and many others during that time. It was sold with Nick's case (which also said, Nick Varner World Champion) and a letter from Nick. This cue was reproduced by Joss and what you now own is a reproduction. They were a Dan Janes' "high dollar" model, along with Mike Sigel's cues..but there were plenty made. I would guess maybe 50-100. Yes, yours looks exactly like Nick's..but it is not Nick's. The website that "had" Nick's let it go for $7000.00. It's just like the case with a guy on Ebay who had a high dollar "production" Joss from that time period on ebay. He thought it was worth $2000 or more just because Lucky had the same thing (recently made) on his site. Big difference between what Lucky had and the one originally made in the 80's, but people see dollar signs and don't want to do their research. You do have some great cues there..but I think you'll get them appraised in the $700 - $1000 range (and that is on the high end). There is an original Joss from the 70's that Sigel played with that is going for $12K...with proof. Again, no proof..no dice.
If Nick Varner is anything, he is a business man. I'm sure he sold that Joss cue for a nice chunk of change as soon as he was sponsored by Falcon (after Joss). He used to come through Nashville with a trunk full of Falcon's and bring them to the billiard stores to sell. He would autograph them with a gold pen and get $200 a piece (these were plain jane models back then). You could tell when Nick had been through because you would see a new surplus of autographed Falcon cues. Does your Earl Strickland model have playing cards on the butt? That is the only one I've ever seen of Earl's and I've seen them go for about $500...although many times I've seen people ask much more. In fact, there might be one right now on Ebay. They are some nice cues though in my opinion.
