Anyone know what the story was here?

I only watched the first few games of this and decided it wasn't worth my time to watch one of the best players of all time make a fool of himself. At one point Al mentioned Earl was sick or something, so maybe he just wanted to go home? Strangest match of his I've seen since he gave away that U.S. Open (if memory serves) match to C.J. Wiley. That give-up stroke of his is something else. Anyone know why he trashed this particular match?

Wow. Painful to watch. He's resigning games with 8 balls on the table. In the last few games he was freewheeling and several times overran position by several feet, resulting in him raking the balls again.

The story is Jack Haines in the 80's would just rake the balls if he missed, giving his opponent the game. There's a great YouTube match of Earl and Jack in 1988. Ghosts coming back.

Simple explanation...he forgot to take his meds.

Seriously though, I can't explain it. It's not professional
at all to act this way. Sponsers, fans, your opponent, etc.
all deserve better than this. I was a huge Strickland fan
growing up, but after playing him and having conversations
with him, I'm not really much of a fan anymore. I'm not a
hater either, but he's lost what luster he had with me when
I was growing up. He's still an incredible player, but has too
much trouble with his demons when things aren't going his
way.

Moral of the story.....Hall of Famers or anyone this side of
a 3rd grader should not act like this, no excuse for it IMO.

I'm no fan of Earl at all but in this match I don't think he was disrespectful
at all. He was talking humane with his opponent and seemed to have lost
interest in the match and that was that. The rack he gave the guy with 7 balls
on the table was because the guy had a duck 3ball over the side and dead in
4-10 combo in the other side.
In this particular case, Earl was acting decent without creating any negative buzz.
His choice to not care is his own and has every right to free-wheel if he feels
like it.
I still don't like him, but i try and stay un-bias when it comes to my opinions.

I watched the live stream of this match and before they even got started, upstate al made the statement that earl was really feeling sick and didn't want to play that day but wanted to support "the cause".....

No good deed goes unpunished.
