Anyone know why the difference in these 2 OB-1's

Just wondering why the wood in these ob-1's are completely different. Is the one with really dark wood one of the first runs or something?

Dark isn't always bad. When I pick a shaft for my personal cue...I normally pick the darkest wood. As a general rule the darker wood will be more dense & play better. Provided the shafts are the same...weigh them and tell us what they weigh.
Also it looks as though some of the laminations on the darker one are wider and not as uniform...although it could be an illusion in the pic. I have noticed that the newer OB2 has much smaller laminations as compared to the wider sections on the OB1.

As far as weight the cue that is really dark it is a 30" and the light colored one is 29". So i probably couldnt get accurate weight.

I am sure Royce will chime in here sooner or latter. Ob is constantly looking to improve their products. Note here that they are still made here in the United States and not over seas. The newer OB-2 is showing additional end-grain from the laminates that it is made from. I believe OB changed this to make the shaft more dent resistant. This is a great idea as Predator doesn't do this and it realy sucks to get a dent out of those shafts.
