Anyone try out one of these on your Deluxe ?

Looks like a very easy install, and plenty of power. Made for commercial sewing machines, and many speed ranges available with a twist of a selector switch on the backside of the motor housing. I am curious if anyone has any direct experience with one of these. I am thinking of upgrading from the AC motor on my Hightower Deluxe, and saw this as a possibility. Another person asked for opinions on this motor in an earlier thread but I saw no responses. It plugs into a 110V AC supply from what I can see, and is pretty much a plug in, great mount system as well.

I don't have any experience with the motor, but found this link with some additional information not provided in the eBay listing.

From what I can gather, it requires a compatible sewing machine foot pedal to operate. Otherwise it looks interesting but with the box, pedal, location of the speed control knob and reverse switch location it may be cumbersome and awkward in use on a deluxe. But if you rewired the system and relocated the controls, it might be a pretty trick setup.

I like this part in the extended description:

Doesn't run unless stand pedal is depressed so is ULTRA QUIET

Well, DUH!!!! LOL :D

But it does look good - even has the basis of a mount built in.

Good Find Lou! And thanks for the additional info Champion!

My favorite is actually in the photo of the motor's specification plate.

"Design in U.S.A"

But they sure aren't saying where it's made!

Well we all know where it is being made

It is packed in fried rice when shipped!
I suspect one can just hot wire the foot petal connections, at most maybe install a resistor inline. It seems to have about ten speed range groups to select from. I doubt one would need more selections. But a simple control can replace a foot petal? The forward and reverse, and all the switches should not be too crazy to relocate.
As far as the mount goes, it is way better than the way my AC motor on my Deluxe was mounted. I am not knocking the lathe, it is my favorite lathe for quick jobs.
The sewing machine motor looks like a heck of a beefy unit. And commercial machines run for long periods of time. Just something to think about guys, it looks really cool to me. I thought someone on here may be using one of those by now? Please speak up if you are, or have tried. Send a PM if you prefer to not be on the public forum?

Well, at least it has a warranty. I was considering one not long ago, but stupidly went with yet another pos penn state. they are a real pita to deal with, and don't stand by their product even tho they have a satisfaction gaurantee. I've decided to buy only american, and japanese electronics from now on, they can keep that made in china, or taiwan crap. I predict you will need that warranty, and regret not getting something better. I went thru 2 penn state controllers, and 1 motor, in less than 2 mos. I've since found that i could've got quality motors, and controllers off fleabay, like baldor, dayton, kb, etc. for near the same money. So, if you have better things to do than dick around with the seller with waranty issues, and spend wasted hours on the telephone (on hold), don't get it:thumbup:
