Anyone want to match up and play.....

I see this request on some of the social mediums and it makes me wonder if the meaning is similar to the way that the word Nit's true meaning is quite different than the traditional accepted meaning by so called gamblers.

"Anyone want to match up and play" means "Let's make up a game, where you can't win, but I call it gambling".

Another one: "Anyone want to match up and play, because I am too lazy to practice and improve my game, but I still want to rob you?"

A "Nit" is someone who won't let you steal their money.

Got any others?

How about from the other side....
..."I just want to make a fair game."
..I tell 'em "Maybe competing isn't for you...if all you want to do is
break even, don't gamble."

I like to gamble by the rules of poker....
...I don't cheat, but I won't help you beat me.
The people that think you should go around exposing your hole-card,
should stay away from action circles.

I guess I shouldn't gamble then. If I break even with someone, then I know it was a fair game and neither of us were playing exceptionally better than the other. I don't see how there's anything wrong with that. It probably means we need to extend the race; since our ability is even, then it's time to test the stamina.

I don't want a game where I'm giving up the world and have to try harder than my opponent who just has to wait for my mistake to win. Nor do I want just wait around and wait for my opponent to mess up so I can steal the set without really having to try.

Yes I want to win, yes I want to be holding more of someone else's cash than my own.

My problem is I firmly believe gambling should be a challenge to one's ability ON the table - not the circus of words around the table. And I know that I'm in a small minority with that belief. Still - I'm excited as all getout for DCC in a few weeks; though it's unlikely I'll ever get a game because of that statement above. lol :D

STLJohnny,
You make a great point about "matching up". Often times I see players who will match up and when they see they have a game that they will have to play hard to win at, play poorly on purpose, pull up quick, negotiate a better game; either the same day or another day then win at the new game they were most favored, then they are ready to play the original tough game and push all of the money back in. That's not gambling....................................
