APA 8 ball scoring

The league operator seemed to get annoyed with me when the better players would talk to me asking how to move up when they were stuck at a mid level. I would talk to them about their practice habits but also about playing something outside of apa also so they had to play nuts up against other players. I didn’t tell them to stop playing apa. If your having fun doing it by all means play. The game should be fun but if you want to play better your going to have to play even up with players in other leagues and tournaments.

Exactly this, the thought in many league players is that they don't need to get better, they just need to get more weight. You usually only see the better players at the tables practicing. The weaker players go drink, smoke and talk about how annoying the good players are to play because they don't miss all the time.

It always annoys me a bit when people talk about beating someone, then you find out they "won" 3-6 when the other guy needed 7. No, you actually lost by 3 games but were given the win.

i have a wife and a young kid. I don't wanna hang out in a bar with drinkers that occasionally play pool till 11pm and not have a challenge. I'd rather play in a pool hall with players. Be in an out in two hours. I'd definitely be up for that
Ye, not enough of a market to get an organization behind something like this. Quite a niche demographic of decent to good players who want the challenge of playing other good players but don't have time for tournaments or a desire to play money games. What I did for a while before just taking the 45min to 1hr drive to a spot with enough money players to get a game without donating to a pro was I'd go to a nearby pool hall on league night and get a table. My game would get attention from other players (and recruiters) but rather than join a team, I invited players to have a practice match on my table while they were done for the night or waiting for their match. Maybe we'd put something small on the line but generally the atmosphere was light, unlike some tense money match. I only played 6s and 7s so the competition was good, and I ended up playing more than I would in league vs only good players. Not ideal, but a decent silver medal.

I'd like to be able to play a Solo league without having to join a team. I was already a well establish player before I joined a league. I was given the lowest rating possible. I was getting weight from guys i was giving to in cash games. Week after week my rating went up just one point.

It was funny my first week. I broke and ran out every rack, the other guy never got too shoot and my rating went up one point. What a damn joke.

I only made it one season, too many people bickering all night. I just wanted to play pool. I didn't want to have to deal with "team" drama.
It must not have been APA. In APA you would have gone straight to 7 (or 9 in 9-Ball) if you broke and ran every rack. Unless your team cheated on the score or you are greatly exaggerating. Did your team cheat or are you exaggerating? If it's neither of those, it was some other league.

I'd assume they cheated. My first week I was the lowest rated. Played as normally as I should and I expected to be at the top rank next week. I would have assumed the other team should have bitched too. But oh well, It don't matter I'm not playing on a team again.

It would take both teams to cheat, unless your area is one where one team turns in both sheets. Then it's possible. It's also possible that both teams conspired to cheat. In those cases the league doesn't really matter. I hope this was long ago. But cheaters will cheat if they think there's something to gain.

This was probably 20 years ago.

Yeah, 20 years ago it was a lot worse than it is now. Cheaters are still out there, but the tools and processes we have to prevent or catch cheaters are much improved. It's sad that they still exist, though.
