APA (by Google)

SL7 IS the cap in APA 8-ball, a game marketed at beginners/intermediates and mostly played on barboxes. When APA 9-ball came out, they bumped up the ceiling to SL 9 to make the match-ups against higher skilled players more fair. For those who boast they're too good for APA 8-ball, suggest trying APA Masters.
The Masters league requires most of us to be on a team for a certain amount of time. And the team aspect drives us away from the APA.

That's where probably a lot of us are at. Too damn good for the league and not good enough for the tour. I tried a league/team years ago and hated it. Way to much bitching amongst all teams with their team mates. I capped out in both 8 ball and 9 ball. I'm not sandbagging I just want to win. I don't give a crap about the money, I just want to play good competitive pool.

I've always been a cash player. Once in awhile I play a tournament to see where I am at. Coming back to pool from a few years off and seeing what's around is really depressing. I use to have 10 pool halls around me. Now I'm down to three. Two of them are about an hour from me. And the one that is about 30 minutes from me is really trash. Their use to be a pool hall down the road that had a ton of action. I walk into this place and can't get a game.

I guess i am destined to be a short stop for life.
That’s exactly my story. Word for word. Except I ran out of pool rooms. Otherwise about playing-that’s my life’s story. Too good or not good enough

Was looking for a place to see people's APA rankings (since I don't play APA and don't have a member account.)
And Google offered "How good is an APA 7?" I had to click on it.

I switched from APA to APL in Sept. 2021. I played APA for 5 years. The seriousness and skill level of the competition was no comparison. APA was mostly social fun 8 ball. We had a 7 on the team who seemed good to me. When I switched to APL we had a 7 (640 FR) who was so much better than the APA 7. All I can say is that in my area the APL players are much better and take the game seriously. I enjoy APL and APA was not fun for me.

My best session of APA was when I had a captain that called the lineup the week before. There was no need to show up and not play or show up and sit around and play last, leaving at midnight. That's my only beef with APA.
The league I play in is a BCA format. Play starts at 7,finish by 930 and action til closing.

That's pretty quick. 5 games I'd imagine?
Knew it wasn't APA when you put action til closing.

We play 4 man teams round robin in our BCA league. Out by 9:30 or 10:00 is the norm. Everyone seems to love it.

5 man teams. Round Robin. 1 rack. Sandbagging isn't an issue because it does no good. Most of the players are older long time APA 7s. It's like playing a masters league.

Love it

This is why I would never play in a non double jeopardy league (both 8 and 9 ball on the same night).

I am not dragging my ass out to the pool room and sitting around for five hours and not playing.

DJ virtually assures you’ll play at least one format and often both.

I’m not a team player. I think league is great, but not for me. I’m glad people have fun playing in it. I’d rather find action and play. But that’s just me.
