APA Members! What is your rating, and do you feel like it is accurate?

As others have previously pointed out, the APA system works when the scorekeepers do their work. Failing to mark proper defensive shots CRASHES the system. For example, failing to mark only 3 or 4 defensive shots will prevent a hot SL3 from being accurately ranked as a SL4.

Think about that: Missing only 4 defensive shots is all that's required to effectively sandbag (whether intentional or not) as a SL4 or lower.

I've played against MULTIPLE teams in my franchise that fail to mark ANY defensive shots. They act as if that space isn't even on the sheet. When two of these teams face each other, NOTHING gets marked for either team. All those 20 inning matches look horrible, instead of the 14 to 15 inning blowouts that they should be.

I love the 'scorekeeper clinic' idea. Ever face the team where the non-pool player girlfriend is 'keeping score?' IMO, only educated scorekeepers should be keeping score.

Couldn't agree more! Not enough take it seriously. IMO...APA has the fairest handicap system, but it takes the membership to make it work.

APA 9-ball I see saw between a 6 and 7. I don't really match up well with 2 of the other 3 7's in the league but the other 6's don't match up well with me either. We play on 9 foot tables so not sure how that translates to bar boxes. In 8-ball I'm a 5. Only played 5 matches lifetime back in 2010. I improved quite a but since then so who knows in 8-ball, but that is definitely not accurate. In 9-ball I think my rating is spot on, either a top 6 or a low 7.

For comparison we have 3 9's in the league, or we did as two of them now only play in masters. The top 9 is an open player who has finished in the money of the action pool tour multiple times and one of the other 9's I believe would also finish in the money from what I've seen.

APA fair?

A few months ago, I posted a thread asking what everyone thought of the APA before I joined. The consensus seemed to be that it is a fun night out, but not a very competitive organization. I started a team with my girlfriend, family members, and friends, so that was exactly what we were looking for.

The only thing that bothers me is the lack of consistency with the ratings the computer spits out for our team. We have 1 guy who has only won 2 of his 9 matches, yet has never been lower than a 3. That is juxtaposed by one of our guys that has won 8 of his 11 matches, but has never been rated higher than a 2. Even stranger, we had one guy get uprated to a 5 on a week where he lost.. He went on to lose the next 3 in a row, and stayed as a 5. What gives??

I am currently a 6 in 9-Ball, and personally, I think that is accurate. What about you guys?

Remember that the OP has the option to re-rate a player regardless of numbers.

A few years ago a "5" shooting against my team in the playoffs began his match running 32 balls in 9-ball. I and several other captains complained to the OP. He watched the guy shoot three or four shots, said, "He's a 5", and walked away.

Another time I had a 3 lose his match in the quarterfinals and go up to a 4. He lost in the semis and went up to a 5. We then went over the limit with me playing (I may have been the strongest players in the entire field), and I had to sit out the finals. My "5" lost the final match in the finals, and the other team went to Vegas.

Sounds like your L.O is a real P.O.S

Perspective of drivers on the road driving slower than you are a$& holes. Drivers faster than you are maniacs.

Be honest with yourselves and ask "what was your best match?" "what was your worst match?"

Anyone has the capability to shoot let's say as much as 25% better or worse from one week to the next except for the pro level players. We have seen our teammates do this.

Now we look at the handicap systems and say if it's based on human interaction, how could it ever be 100% "accurate". Fair might have to be another post.
