I was injured a few years back and am finally going to see my settlement this year. I've been humming and hawing over which is the better investment. APA or BCA. Any opinions? I'm in Milwaukee, so local suggestions of course weigh heavier than distant, but I'll take any opinions right now.

You should base it on whats going on in your region currently, if there is a lot more of one league than the other within 100-150 mile radious of you then thats the way to go because you can tie into any regionals or tournaments for your league players.

There is no franchise fee for BCA, also BCA has no handicap system stamped in stone, you can use your own system or use a system they have put together for league operators that want to use it, or alternatively play even up if you want. They play even up at the BCA nationals. There is a player session fee for BCA players and no weekly fee to BCA, if you have a weekly fee then its set on your own and pooled for prizes and expenses.

The APA has a handicap system that must be used, and its used at the APA nationals. The APA has a set weekly fee for players on top of yearly membership fee. The APA rakes part of that weekly fee.

These 2 leagues are completely different.

Acs???

I am assuming you are from Milwaukee. Isn't that where the ACS is based? Have you considered that organization? I think they are pretty strong in Wisconsin.

Just another option.

APA has left a bad taste in my mouth, with its handicapping system, its real easy to get a team sandbagging to get to Vegas, which can ruin a real good friendly league.

Im all for inhouse, make your own.

The apa is thriving. Most of the players complain, but it is the biggest and therefore the most accessible league around. The apa is good for c and lower players. Beginners can compete in the apa so all of the customers in the bars have a chance.
Leagues like the bca and tap are better for a and b players. Lower level players can join but I feel these leagues are more fun if you are at least a c player looking to get better. This can limit the number of players available players.
In central New Jersey the tap leagues are drying up because the beginners can't compete. While the apa is growing despite all the complaints against sandbaggers and skill levels. I dislike many of the rules of the apa, yet in my area it is the apa or nothing. The apa people, in my opinion, don't care what the players want or dislike. They are growing so why should they change?
In my opinion a good in house league is the best, but the constant complaints about skill levels is too much deal with. With the apa the league operator just says he enters your score into the computer and the program spits out the skill level. He has nothing to do with it.

BCA or WAMO are the two biggest in Milwaukee. I am BCA all the way! I run an establishment in Milwaukee and believe the BCA to be the best for both the players and the establishments. Just my opinion....

I would invest in APA, it is set up to grow, many dont like the rating system or the handicapping but it makes it possible for everyone to feel like they can win which is very important to growing, in my area APA has grown by thousands of players while I see BCA staying the same.

APA is set up in a way that once new players get better they have to break up the team into two teams to stay under the points allowed which is good for growth. The players are drinkers and do not complain like the better players.

BCA- Inhouse or Local?

I've had my room for only 5 years. The BCA has made it harder on the room owner every year. It is very hard to take a profit from a BCA team. They allow loading the teams which discorages the lesser players as they are paying their fees for nothing and they know it. I believe if you are able to pull it off a inhouse league will work the best and pay you the best return. Here we even have to violate the state law to run BCA. I quit two years ago and revenues are a bit off but bottom line is for sure better.
