I think this situation comes down to the following two points:
men vs women players (one or more threads going on right now on this): this is yet another instance of an argument of being right vs being fair or nice. I really got involved in pool in college (Eugene, OR) and the tavern I played at had many good state players, including a couple past state champions. If I wanted to have any chance of winning a game and not having to wait my turn getting in the back of the queue and pay for each challenge game, I had to improve my game. There was nothing emotional about it except for the drive and interest for me to get better. The woman spoke from her feelings taking the it's not fair or nice position and standing firm on it instead of accepting the situation and trying to better herself.
the captain or recruiting player not explaining the BCA league format to the new player: this should have been done clearly and with confirmation before her name was even added to the roster and any dues paid.
