APA Rule question.

A player ranked under 5 is not aloud to raise his cue higher then a 45' angle??? I got called out on it last night was this legal or not???

First, who was the engineer that showed up to a league match with a protractor and an angle finder to measure 45 degrees? and second, just where does it say this in the rules? I'd be curious to know. Not a lot makes me wince anymore in a league match, but when people make up their own rules....
When something like that happens I will sometimes hold out my team manual or get one from somewhere and ask them to show me this rule, that will alleviate many problems

Nothing in the rule book. As other pointed out local bylaw, house rule or made up but not a foul according to the rules.

Thank you for asking my question. :D

I wonder if they have a rule about having 3-4-5 in the rack because then one side would be a right angle and it wouldn't be an equal lateral triangle anymore. Oh that's right, a stripe and a solid. There goes my next hustle...

Actuallly I think the APA technically requires it on certain shots where a double hit foul is to be 'expected' otherwise.

Thank you! This is exactly what happened I was hooked on my 6 ball so I hiked up on the cue to apply a kissing back spin so it wouldn't double hit... This kid was going nuts on me:mad:

I would be mad to; so mad that I would contact to LO and tell them that it is the dumbest rule you ever heard of. The only reason I can think of is that it is in place to protect he tables, but that doesn’t make it any less absurd.

APA sucks .... All their rules suck ... They play to keep you from getting better or to cheat by manipulating the handicap .... Unfortunately it's the only game in town for way to many ...

Again .... APA sucks

how do you really feel about the APA?

Yet here you are posting in a APA thread. What does that say about you?

I think the rule is that you cannot lift the cue over your shoulder. That is what the rule used to be. I do not know if it has been changed in the last couple of years.

If we were in a league match I'd hand you my rule book right about now

Thank God we're not. But thanks the detailed and informative post. It really helped answer the question.

However if I were on the internet I would just link the appropriate...... oh wait ...... dang. Duh.

Anyway, there used to be section on push shots that suggested elevating your cue to avoid the problem when balls are too close. But its been many years since I've played APA ( masters to boot) so things Im sure have changed.

Ill put it this way my and his whole team were shocked in aw when he was yelling at me in pre-stroke for the hit... Hes a level 3... And it was his first APA sign up in years....

Crazy! Well it sounds like he had no way to back up his claim. It would have to be a by law if anything because the rule book has nothing about that. Either way he didn't have a leg to stand on without any proof.

Gosh, you're so sensitive. I think you're correct about there being a section regarding elevating your butt (cue butt), but I'm certain it's not a rule and does not mention skill level at any point. Congratulations on your Masters status

Not sensitive at all. Just didn't understand your comment. I didnt say it a was rule, just that they recommend, suggest, IDK. Eitherway...

All you had to do was say what were saying. Didnt even know if you agreed or disagreed.

I mentioned Masters BTW cause we had different rules in Masters.
