I only had 4 players show up the other night and had to forfeit one match. Then i was told our numbers added up to 20 and we would have to forfeit 2 matchs due to the 19 rule. Is there a point rule in APA 9 ball for only having 4 players for the match. I was told there was a 19 rule but cant find it anywhere. Please post it if it is true.

23 and 19 rules...

If I recall correctly... As long as one of your unavailable players on your roster was a SL 3 or below so that you could have met the 23 Rule w/ them present... You would only forfeit the last match...

The 19 Rule comes into play when you can not field a 5 player team at all w/ any combination of the players on your roster due to SL movement and meet the 23 Rule. At this point you would be allowed to play 4 players to a total of 19 SL points and forfeit the last match.

It is all in the Rule Book. As a captain I would take the time to read it cover to cover.

Have a great day and play well...!!!

The 19 point rule is in effect only when you cannot meet the 23 point handicap with 5 players. If your fifth person who wasnt there would have allowed you to meet the 23 point handicap, then you play all 4 matches. If they would have put you over 23, then you forfeit extra matches.

Do they not allow replay in your local bylaws or is the opposing captain one of those that has to win by any means necessary?

the 19 rule only applies to a team with only 4 eligible players......not teams of 8 that only have 4 show up............... you can post to 20 as long as you have a 3 on the roster even though he/she is not there............. then you can forfeit the last game

I wouldn't allow replays either. If you can't get 5 players to show up to shoot, you shouldn't have a 'team' in the 'league'.

To clarify this1 a little further, the rule is that so long as you could have fielded the forfeited match spots with eligible players from the roster and stayed at or under the 23 rule, you're fine. I raise the point of 'eligible' as there are restrictions for tournament play that can bar rostered members from eligibility to play if they have insufficient matches either that season or in total history.

In the event you cannot stay under 23 with 5 matches from eligible players, you can play 4 matches staying at 19 or less from eligible players, forfeiting the 5th. If you cannot field 19 points or fewer in 4 matches, there is a 'rule of 15' that allows you to play 3 players so long as they total 15 or fewer in handicap.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong?

Then you would be a bad LO. In my area there are multiple teams with the bare minimum of players on their roster. And sometimes people's work schedules change. You're telling me your have them forfeit and pay for every match played? Well they'd quit the league rather than paying for a forfeit like that. Have fun being a broke LO.

From the APA Team Manual page 37

23-Rule. It is permissible for a team to count someone who is on the roster but not present at the match site. In other words, a team may plan on using a SL2 even if the player is not present at the match site. The team would have to forfeit the fifth match, but the advantage they gain is the right to play a higher skill level player earlier in the team match. There is always a chance the player who didn’t show up will arrive later in the match.

When forming a new team, team members should exercise caution regarding the number of highly skilled players they recruit. If the team improves to where it can no longer comply with the 23-Rule, then it must play four players whose combined skill levels do not exceed 19, and forfeit the fifth match. If a team’s skill levels elevate to the point where the skill levels of the lowest four players on the roster exceed 19, then they can play three players to 15. No team will be allowed to add a player to the roster for 23-Rule purposes after the fourth week of play without prior approval from the League Operator.

During my going in 6 years in apa I have encountered 2 captains that have the attitude you display in your post. You know ....the win by whatever means you can attitude.

I guess you have never heard of extenuating circumstances huh ?

Take my team a couple of weeks ago. We had one player up and quit and we cant replace him due to the deadline has already passed for adding new players. A team mate and I work together and we were called to work late in order to finish a deadline. Another team mates son was in a car wreck that afternoon and she was at the emergency room with him all evening so that left 4 players.

Just last week we played a team that only had 3 players show up. Come fo find out one of the players on that team had a son drown just 2 days prior and most of the team was with her at the viewing. We played the 3 that showed and allowed a replay and said we would reschedule the 5 th match a few days later. Guess you would have made them forfeit 2 matches with your hard ass attitude huh ?
