Are You The Same Russ?

Hello,

Are you, by chance, the same Russ that worked as a bartender at a bar named "Googles," or "Oogles?" on Sullivan Street, in Greenwich Village?

If so, I had a blast shooting some pool with you in a back room of the bar, in the summer of 2001, and you asked me if I'd be interested in joining your pool team. If I didn't live in the Atlantic City, NJ area, I would have taken you up on your offer. I did join the APA in 2004, and am currently the Captain of an 8-ball team.

If you're not the same Russ, then I apologize for the story. Best wishes in your search for another player.

Regards,

Glen (strum4u)

No, that's not me...but sounds like a swell guy!

As an aside I believe that the Parkside Lounge was the bar where they filmed the bar scenes from The Black Donnelly's, which was a pretty cool show.
The last time I played there the bar table had a bit of a roll on it, allegedly caused by a fight scene from the show.

Good luck with your search for a new player, if I hear of anyone I will send them your way.

here in the DC area they play 8ball and 9ball APA

you don't mention what game you're playing? the table size? maybe would help your recruiting as well if you mentioned what level of player you're trying to attract

just trying to help, good luck

Under the 23 rule, you still have room to field a SL7. More importantly, you should recruit a super 7. Meaning a player who is a SL 9 in 9-ball, and maxed out as SL 7 in 8-ball.

I "know a guy" within 81 miles of you:wink:, very capable 7/9 player , but he wants dinner w/ drinks ,travel expenses AND a pro rated / performance based payout of any monies won by the team......in writing.....

tronpocket ------------->always willing to take one for the teim:grin:

That is one guy I would never want on a team and would probably ridicule with other 7s.

Good point! This is 8 ball, most of the bars in this division use 7 or 8 foot long tables.

Ideally, a high ranked player would work best for our team, 5 or higher. They are hard to come by in NYC, so any competent player at any level would be considered.

That would be wonderful, but 7's are VERY rare in NYC. In our division, which is almost 100 players total, there is one 7. Just one. He is a beast...I've never heard of him losing. He also happens to be the nicest guy in the division, always looking to help out new players.

Thanks for the helpful replies everyone!

A division of 100 players, in NYC, and only one SL7?

I am confused.

I realize there are infinitely more options in a place like NYC, but just one, in a division that size?

Out here in the middle of nowhere, our division, with just 79 players this session, we have four 7's, and eleven 6's.

Granted, APA is all we have here. Still, our little community compared to NYC?

Wow.....

I don't know if that is typical of other divisions, but that's the case with ours. There is a lot of APA going on in NYC. In Manhattan, there are about 900 players in 13 different divisions. That's not counting Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island.

I'm sure there are other 6's and 7's - just not too many in my division.

not trying to hi jack your thread.

you stated only one s/l 7 in your division.

i looked up my division and we have 99 players.

we have 8 s/l 7's

12 s/l 6's

24 s/l 5's

20 s/l 4's

24 s/l 3's

11 s/l 2's

i am looking for a couple of low level players myself.

Dig that. I didn't calculate the rest of my division, but I'm quite sure we have more SL5's than 6's and 7's combined. I have three on my team alone. (Along with a 7)

9-ball is even worse, for us. I need a decent SL4, stat :p
(SL 8, SL6 & two SL5's, and our 4 is getting done. Yikes)

I'm surprised to hear about the lack of SL7s in your division. If your team's SL 2 and SL3 can hold their own, then they're be sought out when SL 6 and SL7 are scrambling for scotch doubles partners.

Have you tried looking in the 9-ball leagues at Amsterdam, Society, and Tri-State or Predator tour? I've notice many players participate in more than one league. It appears the higher skilled players, such as A+, love staying in APA because their 8-ball handicap can't be raised higher than SL 7.

Good luck in your search for a new teammate.

i need a couple of low level players desperately. one of my 2's went to a 3. lost a husband an wife that were a 2 and a 4.

in 8 ball i have 7.6,5,5,3,3

in 9 ball i have 8,6 5,4,3,3

guess i need to hang out at a couple of bars and see if i can pick up a couple of bangers.

Pro's aren't allowed in APA

Bruce,

I was being facetious.

But ...tell your 'no pro rule' to the league operator where I continually lost the MVP award by mere hundredths of a point to a pro that barely qualified while I played every week. I never even met the guy.

Define the term pro. Has Fran earned any money from playing competitive pool this year. Is she still a pro player or is she once again an amateur player that simply works in the industry?

I'm sure there have been many rule changes since I played many many many moons ago. But unfair biased enforcement or I should say un-enforcement of the rules was always an issue with APA.

But that's not the topic of this thread.

Sorry,
Rick

Good 4's are my need....which is strange, or at least different.

8-ball: 7-5-5-5-3-3-3-3

9-ball: 8-6-5-5-3-2 (losing a 4 and a 3 after this session)

Two of my 3's on the 8-ball team will probably develop into 4's, given time and experience. One of them simply doesn't get the table time, else he would be by now.

Makes deciding the lineup pretty easy. It's always 7-5-5-3-3 :p

Hopefully we come up with at least one player for the 9-ball team, else I kinda have to play every week.
