Is anyone going to Vegas in August for the APA Nationals for teams? I just qualified for the Scotch Doubles and we have our city championships this weekend for one of my areas and next weekend for the other. I hope atleast one of my teams makes it. I already got a great deal at the Riv through the players card rate and a great deal on a rental car through Dollar. We are going to be there for 10 days! That is a long time to be out there.

my team plays the second round of playoffs this saturday at 7. No idea how we will do but I am hoping we are able to do well. This is the first session for a bunch of us so im not quite sure how many games we have to win to get there from here on in though.

Its a blast.
I will be playing for an 8 ball spot this weekend. Hopefully our team
will win the trip. If not I am going and playing in the Triple Play. We placed 5th last year and are going to try and improve that.
Living in SoCal makes it so much easier and cheaper. I have been the last few years and really have a good time.

Good luck in your events

About 5 years ago my APA team in VA won and got to go to Vegas, but I got to go to Boot Camp. They mailed me some pictures and stuff. Last weekend my team here in Cali Qualified to go for the 9-ball. Cant wait. Hopefully I will see some of my old VA players

That's an extraordinarily long time to be out there. Personally, one 7 day trip to Vegas was enough to last me forever, but that is where the nationals are so what are you going to do.
If by some chance you get knocked out early, take that rental car and do some sight-seeing. Do the canyons, and the Hoover Dam. If you want to make an over-night trip, the Grand Canyon was the best place I ever visited in my entire life. It is truly awe inspiring. Then again, if you like the tinsel, maybe you'll want to stay right in Vegas the whole time.
I've still two chances alive I'll get out there this year.

We play tonight with only eight teams left. Then the Finals will be Friday. This is the first year for this team to be together we've all really played good so far hopefully we can keep it up. Everybody keep there fingers crossed and give us some good roll vibes!! Hopefully i can meet some of you when we get there.

I have been to Vegas many times. I love Red Rock Canyon. This year, we are going to try to go to a minor league baseball game in Vegas. There are a ton of factories too that give free tours and give you samples.

The New York New York has an awesome Chinese restaurant there as well as a cool dueling pianos bar.

We were just in Vegas in April for Nationals Singles. We were hoping to get to do some things then, but my boyfriend was too busy winning the purple tier while I on the other hand got my tush kicked in the mini's.

Vegas is great and I woud not go for that long without a rental car. Plus, some of my good friend lives in town and I get to see them.

Who knows, maybe this summer a bunch of us will venture over to wet and wild!

Good luck to everyone trying to get there.

I was mis-informed, last night there were 7 teams left one ready for the finals. We were actually in the semi-finals not the finals. We pulled a tight match out with a hill, hill win. so now we play in the finals tonight for sure. Every one keep there fingers crossed for us!!!

Hi Susie, my son and I both will be there selling our cues and doing cue repair. Stop by and visit a while. We will be inside the main tournament room to the right.
good luck.

I'll be sure to stop by and if I need cue repar you'll be the first person I would have do it! I think my cue tip needs shaping anyway and you are one of the few cue repair guys I trust with my cue! I hope all is well with you and look forward to seeing you again in August!

We Cracked!! We couldn't get it done, lost 3-0 in the finals. I didn't even get to play. The team that beat us just flat out out played us. The team was put together just cause we liked hanging out with each other, half the team it was there first session in APA so for us to get as far as we did was a great thing. Good luck to everybody else who is going and have a great time.

We have our city-wide championship this weekend, which is Father's day.. but my team is screwed since our numbers went up... Looks like we might have to forfiet a match..but at least we have a shot!!!

I cant say our team cracked. I can proudly say that we hung tough and
pull out a victory!! Vegas Baby!!
We had to have wins out of the weaker parts of the team and they stepped
up and got them when needed. We got lucky twice and made the most of
those.
The finals was a tight one with the other team having 1 singles national champion and 2 others that won regionals and made nationals finishing
well. All within the last 1 or so.
It came down 2-2 (how does it always) and we had a sl7 (me) playing
a good sl5. I pulled out the win 5-1 even though it was alot closer than
the score indicated. He won the first one and not one rack seemed to
be in my favor. I had a nice run out in the last rack with the balls not sitting great but not horrible after one breakout.
If anyone else is going and wants to meet up let me know. Theres two from my team that are regulars on here.

I spent approximately 28 days in Vegas with the Fury Booth for the BCA and VNEA events helping them and promoting. It was a blast. I'll go again whenever. Had so much fun and spoke with a lot of players.

My team was supposed to play saturday but when we got out there the power was out.. so everything got rescheduled to this coming saturday at 10:am and if we win that we play sunday afternoon, if we win that we play sunday night and that match would be for vegas, so we are in the finals but have to win 3 more matches. My team is made with 6 out of 8 people who have never played in the APA before. It is made up of me, my girlfriend, her dad, her uncle, my best friend, my gfs dads best friend, and then two guys who are in their late 60's... over the season my best friend had to drop out (he purchased the home from the "Money Pit") and one of the older guys has been in the hospital for 6 weeks getting half his jaw removed and replaced with PVC. So our numbers have dwindled BUT other than those 2 players we all have the same ammount of games played in the season so everyone plays. It was put together to have fun and enjoy ourselves, so its pretty much the same thing, im excited that we have made it this far, we came in second in the division and made it to the finals so that is a successful season but man vegas would be fun :)

Goodluck to all the teams still in the running for Vegas, if you are out then goodluck in the next league or get to practicing :) (we took the summer off from a league so we can practice and fish for striper :))

Last year I posted this to the forum:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.sport.billiard/msg/ba0f542938f1325c?dmode=source

Last weekend was the 2005 Gold Cup for our area. My new team had had a rotten year and we didn't even make the Tri-Cup on any of the three seasons. However, I had to find some way to get back to the Gold Cup. Our area started up a new League for Spring session only. As a back-up plan, I entered on a team of eight players that were a combination of the two teams that play out of our bar. We had a great season and managed to sneak into the Tri-Cup. I went 3-0 as our team won three straight matches to qualify for the Gold Cup.

After winning some matches at the Gold Cup, I found myself 4-2 down in a race to 5 in the deciding match of our semi-finalto get to Vegas. Somehow I managed to raise my game and win the final three racks to send my team into euphoria and to make the Final. There were two other players on my team who were on my team in 2004, as well as four others that watched what had unfolded the year before.

It must have been fate. The match was on the SAME TABLE as the year before. Locked at 1-1 with our SL5 3-0 up against their SL5, all I could think was "It's in your own hands". But that turned into a nightmare as we lost that match 3-4 to go 1-2 down. It's at that point that I had to play. I was put up against a 4. This is a 5/2 race for me. To say I was focused is the understatement of the year. I beat this guy 5-0 with an almost flawless display. That left our 3 to go up in the last match in a race to 2 to get to Vegas, and to erase the bitter memory of the last year.. she did not disappoint. Her final winning shot for Vegas was one the finest shots I've ever seen under extreme pressure (www.100balls.com/lori.mpg). The celebrations were a culmination of reaching Vegas but for three of us, the end of a long comeback road. I learnt a lot about myself on that June night in 2004. I learnt even more last weekend. That is to never give up, and that you only have to succeed the last time you try.

See you all in Vegas! My team name is "Even Ruder"
