The Fox Valley as it is called which is Appleton, Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac seems to have an unusual amount of better than average players, must be something in the water there.

Yep. I grew up in Wisconsin and my mother was from Appleton.

They've always had quality players up there and in the state in general. Maybe a combination of proximity to Chicago and having something to do during long winters when you get tired of freezing your butt off with outdoor activities...

The owner and son are big into pool. They run weekly tmts, many leagues, support youth pool, and free livestream pool.
Not sure if they still do, but you used to be able to go there for a great lunch, and they would give you an hr or so free time on a table after.
Great place, good food, and great owner.

That area has some of the best tool and die makers in the USA. Every town from Kenosha to Green Bay has tool and die shops. These guys know how to run a lathe, and a lot of them play pool.

Isn't it normal to have a lathe in your garage?? I do but its a metal lathe not a wood lathe but I could make it spic and span clean and use it for wood if I so desired. But then I would have to mount my router to the cross feed table, I think that's how cue makers make cues, right?? I still wouldn't have a way to do inlays.
