might be a lil long , for those that do not like reading long threads you can back out now.

i pulled up the apa website tonight to look at this weeks schedule. i glanced over at the side of the page and noticed i am going to reach 1,000 matches by next month.

i joined in the summer of 2010 . 1,000 matches in 5 years is a lot of pool. it looks like with that much playing i would have gotten pretty good by now...don'tcha think ? :)

my ex always told me that i always went overboard in every endeavor i got involved in....softball...raquetball...motorcycles....whatever i had and interest in.:D i guess i have went overboard with apa playing 4 nights a week plus masters once a month.

i hope i did not make a mistake saying what league it was. i hope this thread stays as civil as my ...how are ya'll doing in league thread. i am sure 1 or 2 will take the opportunity to chime in and say how much apa sucks though .:grin-square:

feel free to post how many matches you have played in your league.

decided to cut this post short.

Congrats on the milestone, that's a lot of pool. Say what you will about league, but it takes a ton travel, effort and dedication to be able to play week in and week out, so 1000 matches in just 5 years is a pretty amazing feat.

thanks.

i am kind of fortunate as far as travel goes.

sunday night double jeapordy is in house at high pockets just a few miles from my house....can make it in 6-7 minutes if traffic is light.

tue night 8 ball travel. due to handicap restrictions our other 5 and myself can not play in the same night. we worked it out where he plays the travel matches down south near his house and i play the matches at home or up north near my house. some times if i just want to go for the heck of it i will go knowing i will probly not play.

wed night double jeapordy is travel but i play free so it offsets the gas money.

fri night scotch doubles double jeapordy is in house at high pockets also.

sunday afternoon masters is in house at high pockets also. its just once a month now....down from twice a month last session. we play 2 matches and when its over i am already there to start my sun night double jeapordy. one good thing about playing masters sun afternoon is i am in pretty good stroke and very seldom lose my sun night matches.:grin-square:

Wow, congrats! That's quite a feat!

Congratulations on the milestone!

I just looked at my stats. I joined NAPA in 2011 and have played 113 matches. I also played APA 9-ball for a year or two but haven't been a member for years so I can't look up my numbers. I'd estimate that I've probably played 130 matches since I started playing in leagues.

I took most of the past year off. Going to start playing again in January.

Congratulations. I'm bit pretty hard too with the pool bug as I'm sure many of us are.

Is that why she's your ex? I was kinda the same way, Mon- thur leagues then tournaments Fri, Sat, Sun. They don't need us if we aren;t there.

I've been playing just over 2 years in APA, just one night a week (except one session I got roped into playing two nights, twist my arm why don't you?). I've got about 200 matches total as all my leagues have been double jeopardy, and I rarely miss a week. I went from really never playing pool to being a 7 in 8 and a 6 in 9. Had a ton of fun with my brother and other friends on our teams. Found this site, have watched a lot of pro pool because of the love I've found for this game.

Think about 1,000 matches x $6 per match = $6,000 dollars worth of pool..if you are in APA to improve your skill (as opposed to the social aspect), do you think you would be better off paying a professional coach to coach you maybe for two months? Obviously making friends and enjoy the team atmosphere is invaluable, I'm just trying to see if skill-wise the money is worth it.

Hi Lo,

Just played my 203rd APA match. Been a member just slightly longer than you. Talk about dedication! You da man!!!!

That's an awesome milestone especially in 5 years. Make sure to post when you hit that 1000 match club. :)

I've shot for roughly the same time and I know I'm not even close to 1000.

At 61 years old I think I am past my prime to spend that kind of money on lessons. However I did pay for a full day lesson with rand g a few years ago.

Actually you will be surprised at how little I pay apa for playing in their league.

Once a month masters. We play 2 matches at 8.00 a piece and with 4 players on the team I may not play but just one match.

Sunday night double jeopardy. The lo plays on my team and he pays every ones weekly fee.we just pay for the quarters for our matches. E every 3-4 weeks we play on 9 footers and our lo pays the table time.

Wed night double jeopardy. My lo plays on that team and again he pays every ones Lo

My Fri night scotch doubles team is a bye fill team so we play free.

If I play every Tue night and both masters once a month my monthly apa fees total 32.00

Now my weekly tab at the various establishments' we play at is another thing entirely. I average a 100.00 a week for food and beverage.it was more but my gf cut back to playing with me to once a week.

Lol..... She was my ex long before I joined apa. Actually my current gf was already playing apa and got me to join her team when we started dating.

Wow!! Congrats!!!!! 1000 matches,,,,, 10 bucks a match equals 8 or 9 thousand right?? Hope it's worth it:)

i just looked at my napa stats.

i also joined in 2011 but my last match was in 2014...sadly the league folded due to lack of players.

i have 101 matches. almost half of the players in napa also played apa at the same time like i did. there was never a problem between the 2 lo's. as a mateer of fact the napa lo also played on my apa team and masters also.

i don't know if you could call it dedication ...more like hooked on pool.

believe me...it ain't exactly been a bed of roses all the time. a couple of times i came close to quiting before i decided to just accept it for what it is. things like the lo raising one of my players handicap at the most inoportune times....like the middle of ltc's used to really piss me off lol.

i have to make a correction. my actual count is 952...i thought it was 982. at the rate i am going i will reach 1,000 anyway in a few months.

yea i think i can post when i hit that mark. :D

Wow I only have a year and only have 85 matches so even in 5 years I wouldnt even hit half of 500 so very impressive and congrats once you reach that milestone!

for the 1st 4 years it was 6.00 a match and was raised to 7.00 this year. i guess you missed the post about league fees.

as for it being worth the amount i have spent the last 5 years.....yea i would say it has been worth it.

90% of the time when i go to league i am able to leave all of lifes little problems at the door.

i don't woory about what a bad day at work i had or the crap i have to face the next day at work.

i don't worry about the heaterin the truck works when it wants to....it has been in the shop 3 times this year for the same damn thing.

i don't worry about bills

i don't worry about things that need to be done around the house

some times i cant help but have other things on my mind but most of the time i dont have a care in the world and forget all about lifes little problems while i am shooting pool. the world does not exist to me outside those 4 walls while i am in there shooting pool.

yea i still have those same problems when i walk out of the pool hall, but the 20.00 or so i spend for the 4-5 hours i am there is well worth it for the best therapy in the world. :grin-square:
