Just got back form Slate. Went there right from my office, just like last night.

Only watched two matches closely, Archer vs Petroni and Souquet vs Jones.

Archer vs Petroni
Looked like a blowout as Archer shot the lights to gain a 7 - 2 lead, but then a most unexpected comeback began. In grind-it-out fashion, Fabio rallied to within 7 - 5. At 9 - 7 ahead, Archer had a bad miss and Petroni ran out to pull within one rack, 9 - 8. Petroni owned the next break and a break and run would have tied it, but Petroni hit a poor break and blew his chance. Archer got that one and the next for a well-deserved 11 - 8 win.

Souquet vs Jones
Both Ralf and Jeremy appeared to be in stroke up to 3 - 2 favor of Jones. Souqet hooked himself on a five ball at 4 - 2 down, but made a superb kick in with shape onto the six, keeping the match tight, pulling within 4 - 3. Then, the level of play dropped sudedenly and unexpectedly. The match turned into a mistake-filled affair and got all the way to 8 - 8 before Souquet had a shocking miss on a seemingly routine two ball. Jones made no mistake about it and got that one and the next for 10 - 8, en route to victory.

Other
Wiliams led Roschkowski 10 - 8 and Crosby trounced Foldes, who I heard had Immonen in big trouble in the afternoon session before falling double hill. Finally, in the winner's bracket semis, it was Immonen and Deuel 2 - 2 and Hohmann and Chamat 2 - 2 when I left.

Sure would have liked to stay, but it's looking like a busy one at the office tomorrow. Aw shucks! Hope to make it to the ESPN Zone Friday after work to see the last two matches.

The brackets report that Archer beat Petroni 11-6.

Then the brackets are in error. Petroni got to eight. I saw the entire match.

JJ was shaking like a leaf yesterday, when he was getting out the last rack against Thorston. I'm so happy for the guy, he's avenged his WPC loss to the same player and got on to the TV rounds. Go Jeremy!
