a standardized dia./circumference at the joint ? Or at least close enough that it is not noticeable if you roll it out on the table ? Anybody use a collared shaft with a butt that isn't collared ?

The standard tip diameter is between 12.75 and 13mm, the standard joint diameter is between .840 and .860 thousands, and yes I have customers who use a collared shaft or butt without a collar on the half, in my opinion it doesn't hurt anything.
