Are there any more cuemakers that will convert bar cues cheap?

I was just wondering if anyone here knows a few custom cue makers that will take something like a valley cue or a dufferin or some one piece cue and convert it into a two piece. Or if anyone knows if any cuemakers sell them. My cues are in the several hundred to couple thousand dollar range, and I my friends just want to shoot at some cheap pool hall. In those places I'd rather not take anything nice. Plus my friends also want to shoot with my cues :( Don't know if this could be done cheap say ~$150 range something I wouldn't mind getting dinged up but has a decent tip/straight shaft.

I just completed about 15 of these. 7 of which have fancy rings, and 5 have piloted wood to wood joints. $200-$275 range shipped.

Let me know if interested, I was planning on posting pics after next weekend. I've got a tournament I'm taking them to, but if interested, I may sell here.

Not that you and everyone else doesn't know, but the main reason most cue makers charge $200 or more for a conversion is the finish, joint work, and shaft. Most Makers Charge $100 for refinish, $25-$50 for joint work, and $80 or more for a new shaft. Most won't cut the shaft section off and try to use it, but I've seen it tryed. That would save some money, but 9 out of 10 times you wouldn't have a very good shaft.

AZ has a bunch of guys who are trying to learn to be cuemakers/ repairman, many of them will work cheap because they need the experience, sometimes you'll get great work done for a reasonable price, other times you'll get what you paid for. Just keep in mind the old saying "you get what you pay for" and don't ***** later that your cue warped and it wasn't worth the $25 you spent.

Also you may check E-bay, often times you can find a nice cue in that price range, maybe a plain Joss or a Used Meucci, around $100-$200 range.

Me personally, I would pick a plain Joss over a conversion by a newb maker, in that price range at least.

eric crisp (sugartree cues) modified an old dufferin s/p i have, he put one of his pins on it with phenolic joint work and one of his shafts. i believe dick neighbors does them in that price range aswell. maybe you could try get in touch with poolschool he has dufferin 1pc cues and dick has converted some for him.
 
Action

You can buy action cues in that price range just to have something decent to shoot with and not worry if they get stolen. Heck you can buy McDermotts or Vickings in that price range too!!!!!!!! You can get an Action SP for about $80.
 
There are

several SP in the $100-140 range that you can buy off the shelf. Personally, for bang for the buck, Huebler SP is a good choice.
 
I guess your choice depends on

a. How much cue you need to win in "some cheap pool hall", and

b. How much money you can spend on a cue without its theft or damage bothering you.
 
what kind of shaft are you looking for?.....are you talking about using the shaft that was on the house cue or a good one.........i only use the best shaft wood that i can get on my cues but i do have some leftover shaft wood from when i bought my buisness that he used on his cues, i wouldnt use them on my cues but they are still probably better than the shafts on a lot of good production cues. if i use one of those shafts and an old dufferin house cue butt and use an oil finish ( like on a gunstock ) instead of a normal finish , with a plain 3/8 10 pin i will make you one without my name on it and put a wrap on it for $150.00.

After all the posts I think I've decided to just get a cheap production sneaky. I really just want a cue that can be stored in my car for a few hours instead of having to drive home first to get my cues. I need one that I don't have to worry about getting dinged up, and can let my friends shoot with if the house cues are worse. Give me a pretty straight shaft and a nice layered tip and I'm happy. Thanks for the offer though.

I have these. Which I am sure would serve your purpose. I use one as my bar cue and have for over a year. Break with it too. Plays very nice.

no problem....dont blame you for going with a cheap cue.............still keep a dufferin sneaky pete that i have had for five or six years in my car, just cause its cheap and i dont care if it gets hot or cold or warps a little and you never know where you might run into a game sometime that your not expecting.
