Are there too many tours?

Nope, there aren't too many tours. Only too many for the people trying to run them and make a living.
Pool players are an unloyal lot, they will go where the tournaments are period.
Give them a place to play and they will be there...

Take the profit our of being a tour operator or TD and see how many tours remain.

I won't spend 30 weeks a year running events for free. I'm pretty sure nobody else that needs a job to survive would either.

Sponsorship on a national level is much more expensive and involved than sponsorship on a local/regional level...

And starting a national tour requires a huge investment... which has so far been the problem.
Attaboy girl ! It all boils down to the BCA not doing anything to coordinate
or improve our sport. They have the funding, they are just too self serving
and cheap to do the right thing !!!!!!!

Exactly right! How do you know so much (I won't say for a girl)? Not to fear I plan on fixing that if Mike Janis will answer my PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, after talking with several of the board members I just found out that nobody has approached them in years to help fund a tour. They said they have been looking for other avenues on their own.
They found these other avenues through Alan Taylor Communications and the Ballbusters program. To me these were a waste of money (about $350,00). I am approaching them (the BCA) with a much better way of spending that money to establish a true pro system here in the US that will also help them achieve their goals as an organization.

Mike,

I don't think anyone would suggest that you don't make money, but make fair money has always been my gripe about regional tours. You have been the only person who has had the honesty to post the full financials for one of your events on this forum and you deserve massive respect for this. I think that your tournament payouts represent the fact that you are fairly paid, if not less, for your effort. I would gaurantee that some other regional tours would not do the same.

If you would not mind replying, why is something like average sponsorship or total sponsorship propiertary?

Thanks, I have to get to one of your events, but they are pretty far away.

I'm sure he means Alan Taylor Communications, which is a major PR firm headquartered in NYC.

kryptonite9, my competitors also participate here on AZ. There is no way I would share that specific information.

What I can tell you is this; for the 2007 season we received several (about 4) HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARRS in retail value sponsorships from our collective of sponsors. As far as I know, I (The Viking Tour) is the only tour in this country that gets anything close to that every year. Our membership and industry sponsorship is over 5 times larger than our closest competitors.

I have talked to many of my competitors and many of us are on very friendly terms and they all ask the same question you did. At times, I have even shared some of this sponsorship and/or our resources to help them (other tours) build. BUT.... After the last 2 fiasco's when I tried to help other tours / individuals I got bit pretty hard so NO MORE SHARING.

I wold also like to add this: I worked very closely on a project with Nick and Cici at the Tiger Planet-Pool Tour and from my experience they did exactly what they said they would do and then some. Mike Zuglan along with the Tiger and Viking Tours also co-oped on a project together and he is also a very stand up guy. I would not hesitate to do business with either of those tours or individuals again. They are good people. Mj
