Are you a banger, or are you a serious player?

I am curious what you think the meaning of a banger is, and what the meaning of a player is?

If a player just loves to shoot, and never does any drills (and just plays for fun), then do you think he or she is considered a banger?

If a player does not do all of the boring drills in order to try to improve their game, then does not mean that they are not really a player, and just basically a banger?

I am thinking that I was never really a player, because I never wanted to do any of the boring drills (and that is why I never really surpassed strong B, or weak A level status), and I just wanted to shoot.

I always loved to just play, and I learned by picking up on other players way if playing, but I never really did drills.

I never really tried to improve my game.

I assume that the average league player is what most serious players would consider a banger, because I do not think that the average league player really works very hard on improving their game (and probably rarely, if ever, does any drills).

Just curious what you think the difference between a banger and a player is?

Thanks for any thoughts (replies) about this.

IMHO, a banger, as the name implies, is someone who likes to hit every shot HARD. They judge the shot as a test of their manliness, not their playing ability.

My brother and I were bangers the first time our Dad took us out to play golf. We swung the clubs as hard as we could. I had a few 375-yard drives. Of course, the ball landed two fairways over...but that d#mn ball knew I meant business!

I'm a banger and very rarely play safe. With six pockets, there is usually always a shot.

If you hit balls hard enough, eventually they will find a pocket.

I place the occasional "emphasis" on a shot because it's fun and I like the sound of the ball hitting the back of the pocket, but don't go callin' me Happy Gilmore! I only do it on games that don't matter.

I like to bang serious players but that's just between me and you!

Use to play somewhat seriously, now recreation play at most. As my health improves Ive got the carrot of trying to get back into A speed stroke. :grin-square:

Bang Bang.......

Cue ball control and position is of paramount importance to me.......regardless of the type of shot......I am just hooked on moving the cue ball wher I want it to go.
Sure I get annoyed when a shot rattles the pocket but what really upsets me is not putting the cue ball where I want it to wind up. It's most likely because I started
playing pool 56 years ago & the game back then was straight pool. Overall, I pretty much think of myself as a pretty intense practitioner of the game rather than banger.

Exactly! Forget fundamentals and aiming systems, if you miss, it means you didn't shoot hard enough. That's the banger way.

I don't consider myself a banger as take the game too seriously. In my opinion a banger never rattles the pocket and leaves a duck. They always miss by at least a half a diamond. I'm sure you know guys like that.

Bangers don't play position. They don't consider any shot but the one their facing at the time. If you're posting in a pool forum, you're probably not a banger.

Bangers just put balls into pockets. Quick gain with a definitive roof you'll hit rather soon.
Serious players consider fundamentals, technique, position play and tactical aspects like safeties. Slow and steady gain with no real roof to hit.

Leisure players can also be serious players and have fun at trying out techniques and getting better.

I do prefer to be a serious leisure player
