Dose the weather, outside temps or season's (winter/summer...) have any bearing on when or how much you play pool? My reason for asking is I run a little tournament and the weather here has been getting pretty nice lately...Tonight I had 4 people show up. Last week it was 8...past few months have been 12-15 players (thats a decent sized tourney for where I live believe it or not)...I was warned when I took over that this summer the tourney would likely die out...sure I expected to loose a few here and there but Ive never been anywhere where 2/3 of your players will just vanish almost instantly...I normally wouldn't think it was just the weather but when texting/calling people to remind them of the tourney I got very similar answers from several people...Back yard BBQ, Enjoying the evening on the back patio, playing horse shoes and having a beer...almost everyone that gave a reason that they wouldn't make it had to do with being outside doing something...

For me pool takes up most of my fun/free time almost year round..I may miss a little pool in the fall if I happen to draw out for a deer or elk hunt, I might miss a couple weeks during the summer due to lake trips & camping....Maybe a little around the holidays if we're out of town visiting family or something too. But hell BCA nationals is on my wedding anniversary and I put my foot down...uhhh....yeah I'm not gunna lie...I sweet talked my wife into going to Vegas to so I could play (I have an awesome wife )....

What about you guys/gals out there???

I sure am. Once the water temps get into the 50's, I'm Bass fishing. Love pool, but nothing like the solitude of being alone on the boat. The fisherman who happens to shoot pool, Brian.

You have a good life, my wife threatened to divorce me every time I wanted to go out and play pool.

The tournaments in Denver have been very active lately, but it's still cold here.
I don't know about other cities, but pool here is on the upswing.
There are so many dynamics with local tournaments, I would have to be there to really figure out what the problem is.
The guy who said the tournaments will die out in the summer must know what he's talking about.
Try some promotional stuff and if that doesn't work look into starting an in-house league.
Maybe an in-house league would generate more interest in pool.

Congrats on the good wife thing, it's rare, and you are a lucky man.

When it is golf weather, pool time suffers a bit, but I play all year long. Nice having a table in my mancave.

Fair weather player

In the past when it warms up I play golf but due to my one pocket improvement I plan to play more pool this summer. If you have a larger payout your tournament field will grow accordingly.

I'd rther drive rusty nails through my hands than play golf....but during warmer weather, I'm a car guy, so yea....pool time suffers then....and like you it is nice having a table in my mancave.

The only people here that care about a larger pay outs are the small handful of serious players (5 maybe 6 of us) The rest of the players dont seem to take pool all that serious and they don't try to improve their game to contend with the better players in the area...

I'm surprised that the "I'm totally obsessed to the exclusion of any other activity" to paraphrase is still leading versus the more rounded dynamic of "I might take some time away from pool based upon the season/weather" choice ... but this is a billiards forum! I guess you can guess which choice I gave my vote.

In the past I've been a seasonal player, but hoping to keep it up over the summer this year by joining a local summer 8 ball league. Like many others it's mostly golf that pulls me away, along with a bit of running and cycling, but mostly golf.

If I had a home table I would play much more consistently, I tend to play the most on weekends during the day when it's pretty quiet. The place I play is mostly also a resteraunt/bar in a college town so evenings can tend to be louder, more crowded, and less geared towards a pool hall atmosphere than a bar atmosphere...but it's the only place that has eight 9' tables rather than the more common bar boxes you find in the midwest which is why I go there.

It's not a seasonal thing, but yeah, other hobbies do pull me away from playing pool. Having a table at home makes a world of difference.
