If you are, let's hear a story. Everyone wants to be recognized for the good they do, and I'm sure we want to recognize you for it also !

Did you help a beginner go from looking like a wild turkey trying to juggle at a table to a growing player with a proper stance?

Did you give away your old cue to some kid?

Did you start a tournament somewhere?

Are you raising your kids to play the game with passion?

Some of the best times I had in a pool room was when I run across some helpless player struggling to hit within 2 feet of the pocket and showing them how to line up the cue and stance to hit the ball where they want or explaining to a parent that brought their kids how they can work on things at their home table.

I think you should start with your own story about how you just badmouthed 2 players, publicly, with your very own thread....right here on AZB! Tell us what good THAT did, please? Did that make you feel good about yourself, your game, or both?

If you're talking about the women's match, that was some pretty bad playing. I was just amazed that it was recorded and people paid to go to it.

It actually did make me feel good about my game, after all, I am not that good but can outplay by far how they played that match and they got to be on a show for their skill.

Also, if you read my comments, the issue is not with how bad they played, but the fact that the promoter(s) put them out there as something worthy of watching. If the point was to have two pretty girls walk around and show off the sponsored products, then it worked. If they wanted to promote what good pool playing was, that fell a bit short. I was watching the audience reactions and I was amazed none of them were shaking their heads at what they were seeing. I would have walked right out of there.

Well, my friends and I introduced quite a few players to pool and helped them play better. Thanks to us, there are more bangers on this planet.

For Pool1

Hangthe9,
I would like to think I am but its really hard. Ive spent a lot of time working on what I consider a real aiming recognition method and it really works for me to find that people really dont want to pay anything for anything pool so I guess I'll keep it in the box.

Also I am trying my best to throw together a Pool and Billiard Trade show and for the negativity makes me think that I might spend my time better just showing up to the pool room and enjoying the game and let someone else worrry about it. Not to mention nothing one does is good enough and you can lose a lot of money trying.

Ive got several other ideas to help pool but its hard to find anyone who wants to pay anything for the help they they need to help themselves so.....I wonder if helping pool is worth it beyond just helping someone learn how to play and thats where Im at.

Id gladly give lessons but you know everyone seems to think that they know how to do everything yet their games stink so....I think the best thing for me to do is keep my trap closed. lol.

I help my spending thousands of dollars at my local pool hall. It helps them stay in business for the mass public.

As far as teaching or helping, I do my fair share but nobody likes to help in this industry.

It's pretty much a dog eat dog world in the pool industry.

this is 180 degrees, but worth mentioning:

a few months ago, we met friends who were in from NYC. their hotel was 10mls from our house. we were running late, so we said - WE'LL GET GAS AFTER WE LEAVE....famous last words.

at 1AM, every fricken gas station was closed. OH, WE CAN MAKE IT 5 MLS TO THE NEXT ONE....nope.

so on a 10-mile stretch of highway, and only 1 exit in between - well - it happened....

so there we are, on a dark, deserted highway - WALKING. (in high heels, a dress, & 95 degrees, mind you!). it was too late to wake up our friends for rescue. there aren't cabs here, to speak of. we had 2 miles to get to that exit. then another 2 mls to its gas station. i took pics of the mile-marker, so we'd know where we had left our car.

after 1/2 a mile, the shoes came off. and i'm cussing @ KK9. and i'm running through my head: WHO IN THE H_LL IS UP/OPEN (AND SOBER) @ 1AM????

and here, you have it: BREAK TIME BILLIARDS

not that there would be any patrons @ 1AM, but our bartender can't just close temporarily & come get us. i called Tom anyway. and guess what?

THE OWNERS - JEAN & RICHARD - HAPPENED TO BE THERE!

these 2 good-hearted people (70-ish), whom we've known for 25 yrs, went & bought a gas can next door, drove on a brand-new stretch of unfamiliar, dark highway, 7mls, (we had to drive them in), at 1AM, picked us up & took us to our car, and filled our tank.

AND SAVED OUR _SSES

needless to say - we followed them back to BREAK TIME, and patronized them!!!!
