I'm buying a used Ariel Carmeli cue and I've never played with one before. Can anyone tell me something about these cues and any dealings with the cue maker.

Thanks,

I play with one (with a predator shaft however) and really like the hit. I know Ariel personally and his cues afre constructed very well.

The cue that I have has two of his shafts and I have hit with both of them and they hit very solid and stiff.

I am not quite sure what the general public opinion of Ariels cues are but IMO they are very good solid cues. The work is always good and he does make really high end stuff at times.
In Vegas last week I think Joe Salazar bought a few from Ariel. One really caught my eye (and Joes). Really sweet looking cue.

I think you will be happy with the purchase. I only use the Predator shaft on my AC cue because thats what I was used to at the time. I do feel that the
Butt end of a cue and dramatically change the hit of a shaft.

I played with a Carmelli snakewood/ebony cue for a while at the Super Billiards Expo this year. I thought it played great. Very firm, stiff hit (which is what I like), similar to my Southwest. Very good balance. I think they are great custom cues for the money.

We get back to E'prise about 2 times per year now...usually 4 July and Thanksgiving. I am retiring at the end of this month, so maybe we will get back more often. Always good to go back home and see how little things in a small town change compared to elsewhere. We also visit Larry at KO and all the guys at Herman's in Dothan when we go down.

I own 4 of them right now, and have probably owned another 8 that I have since sold off or traded (as my bank roll went up and down). He makes an excellent all around playing cue, and his shaft wood is of very good quality (he flys and personally hand picks his shaftwood). Although, I have played with his shafts, right now I'm playing with an Mc D Ice #2 on it.

If you're planning on playing with it, make sure you get to play with it first, his cues definitly play stiff, so if it's not your thing, you might avoid them.

My plan is to get Ariel to match a predator shaft to the cue after I get it. I like stiff hitting cues, but lately i've been using predator shafts and i've gotten used to the hit and lower deflection you get from predator shafts.

They are great cues, I have been through about 7-8 cues of his since about 1998 or so. His designs are nice and he knows how to match woods to get the hit you are after.
