I'm headed to Searcy, Arkansas next week. It's about 60 miles or so north east of Little Rock. I know this is a tall order but I'd Like to find a players room with good equipment that's well maintained.
I don't want a party scene with loud juke box and/or a bunch of drunks and smoke.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck with your Quest. There is one room right in Searcy called Pastime Billiards? that has about 12-15 tables. I dont' remember if they are Gandy or Olhausen?

If you don't mind a little drive time, there is a pool room in North Little Rock, called Krome Billiards with 8 or so of the Diamond 7 foot smart tables, and a couple of 9 foot Gold Crowns. The smart tables are $1 each game and the big tables are less than $5 an hour. These were the only Diamonds in Arkansas until a few months ago, when I installed 2 in south little rock and two in hot springs,AR.THIS ROOM IS IN ONE OF THE ROUGHEST PARTS OF NLR.

Also in North Little Rock, right by the river on Broadway and Maple is a coin-op 7 foot valley room with 10 tables called Daddy Mac's or Mac Daddy's, They changed the name and I always choose the old one.

About 15 minutes further south on I-30, is a bar/6 table pool room/poker house, BIG SLICK's. They have the 2 new rails ,Blue Diamond Smart tables I installed, plus four valleys.

There is a regular bar with 3 tables in Jacksonville called ALL-Stars that pool players hang out at because of the lack of pool rooms in AR.

Also in Russelville, AR, probably about an Hour and a half East of where your staying is BEEZERS BILLIARDS, owned by AZ member and cue maker Mark Smith. He has twelve new 8' pro-ams on order but I don't think they have been delivered yet. he is replacing his Olhausen home tables with new Diamonds and Diamond Lights. This is the place where they hold the majority of the Arkansas State Tournaments. APPA

Hope this info helps, I lived in Seattle and then moved to AR for the past couple of years before moving to Vegas. The pool scene is mostly all 7 foot bar boxes in very rough shape. Alot different than West Coast Pool scene. It is starting to change, though.

The action is at Krome, but be careful and park your car across the street so you dont come out to a broken windshield and four flats after your session!!! Based on true story.

thanks for the info

I've played at Pastime and as I remember they have 10 - 8' Gandy's and a 5X10 snooker. Also a Gandy.
I was hoping for better news on Little Rock. I guess I'll stay in Searcy unless someone comes up with a GEM.
BTW. I don't mind traveling a bit. I once visited my cousins in Florence, Alabama and took a day trip to Marietta, GA just to check out Archers room. That's about a 500 mile round trip.

cant rememder how far it is to searcy, know its not a 500 mile round trip. we got a couple good pool halls. the rack , hi pockets and sharp shooters. heard about a place called generations . oh and another place called silver cue but it aint a gem. chit load of bars with tables. i think tou would be ok with the first 3 mentioned but one aint exactly in the best part of town . forgot to mention im in memphis.

thanks lorider

I'll try to locate those places on Google. Memphis is a little over 100 from Searcy out hi-way 64 and well within my range. Thanks a bunch.

didnt think searcy was too far away, went there bout 10 years ago just couldnt remember how far. will give you a lil info about the 3 pool halls i mentioned in case you decide to make the trip.

sharpshooters is the newest hall. has very good valley bar boxes. have played there bout a dozen times. mostly younger crowd so juke box kinda gets played a lot but its not too loud.

the rack has been here forever and it resembles an the old time pool hall the most. very well maintained tables.open 24 hrs if i remember correctly.
juke box hardly ever played and its low.
these 2 have more bar boxes than 9 ers.

hi pockets is kinda middle ground between those 2. has more 9 footers than bar boxes . tables in good shape but i dont think felt is replaced as often as the other 2 but they arent in bad shape. juke box is low and hardly ever played. only place i see one pocket played. i havent played that game yet but i watch it sometimes when im there. they have 9 ball tournament every thursday night on 9 ers. by the way this is where i hang out. i mostly play on bar boxes but will get on the 9 ers once in a while. if you do go pm me and maybe we can shoot some.

Well I guess I will chime in cuz I play in north little rock everyday

If you want great atmosphere and 8 per hour rates and no action or players go to fox and hound or west end in little rock. All schmidt home tables but hey it's "safe". Lol. If you want action come to krome or Mac daddys in north little rock. Great tables at krome and the gold crowns are 2.75 an hour with blue simonis on every table. It's not the best neighborhood but it's no where near as bad as the rack in Memphis and I personally don't feel afraid at either place. I play at krome everyday it's my home room and I have never had issues with the neighborhood. Pastime Billiardsis right in searcy, and they don't smoke or serve drinks there and it's and old school pool hall. Good luck.

i feel "safe" as you call it at the rack. yes its not in the best part of town, but i have never had any issues while playing there. i just play at the other 2 places i mentioned more because i live closer to them. in fact i would have to drive right by hi pockets to go to the rack. i play in a travel league and the rack is one of our stops, like i said earlier, havent had any issues playing there.

now if you talking bars , theres quite a few places on my travel league that im a lil uncomfortable playing at.

Road Trip?

If your gouing to be in Searcy for awhile and dont mind driving half a day, there are some of the country's best rooms 3 0r 4 0r 5 hours from Little Rock.

Your only about 4 hours from Oklahoma City and Jamaica Joes with 18 Diamonds. There is a couple of other rooms their but I cant remember their names.

Also Tulsa, OK has a very strong pool scene.

Also your a 5 hour drive from J.O.B.'s in Nashville. I think about 30 tables that all just got recovered in Blue Simonis around Jan/Feb. "Home of the Champions" they say.

Krome in NLR is the best that is close, just be aware of whats going on around you, just like anyplace your not familiar with.

Have fun
