Do you guys ever get bad arm pains?
From playing for long extended times. I seem to have allot of pain at night in the joint area of my left arm (bridging arm). From stretching to bridge the shot I guess.

What can be done to lessen the pain?

Sounds like tendonitis. If it's not to bad an OTC anti-imflamatory can help. If it persists you generally have to discontinue the activity causing it for a week or so. Know you don't want to hear that. Check with your personal physician. He/she might refer you to an Orthopaedic.

The outside of my left shoulder- I play right-handed- gets sore after extended playing.

I have taken weeks off, but it really doesn't seem to help. It just gets out of shape.

Stretching seems to help me a bit. Try to stretching the muscles on each side of the sore area, both before and during the playing. Hell, stretch after too. And, BTW, start light, only until you feel the slightest pull at first.

Good lick!

Sounds like the discomfort is related to either the rotator cuff or lateral portion of the deltoid muscle.

I used to get pains all the way up my arm. It began in the wrist and was most intense from my elbow to tricep. Though it often intensified during pool, I found it was due to work (Systems Admin / Programmer). I wore a wrist brace for a while at work and while I slept and it went away.

Stop gripping the cue so tight the saw dust falls out the bottom of your hand. Take two alleve every 6 hrs and call me in the morning, I'll send you a bill. :o

It may be related to overuse and not a tight grip. All of that stuff can be interrelated, however.

Oops, I thought we were talking about the elbow joint. Are you using your bridge hand/arm to support your weight while stroking?

Hey Kokopuffs,

The pain is coming from my left arm socket of my shoulder.
It does not hurt when playing but after playing a few hours
it gets really sore.

(Bridging Arm)

Do all players get this if spending allot of time at the table?
I know players that are in the pool hall for 6-8 hrs a day.
What happens to them?

Not all players get that type of pain but perhaps you were either born with a focal weak spot at that joint or injured it earlier in your life.

Am 60 years old and am experiencing arthritus, bursitus and tendonitus that comes and goes months at a time - practice is hell.
