Seems like this could be part of why Matchroom renamed the Asian Open to the Hanoi Open. Doesn't look like that name change offers Asian players any real protection though.

And it’s uncertain if the Vietnam Billiards and Snooker Federation assisted Matchroom in hosting the event. If they did, this could be directed at them.

This ban is huge -means these Asian players will not be able to play in regional inter-country events like Asian Games, World Games, South East Asian Games where they get their association/govt rewards, reimbursement if they win medals. They will skip these MR Asian events and play in Europe/US events instead which means MR Asian events will ironically not have any Asians playing

Pool's gone from basically zero interest to the courtroom. I don't know if that's good or bad. Definitely way more $$$/interest than in a longggg time.

I completely missed this and my google fu I hasn't been successful in figuring out what's going on here.

If it's possible, can somebody please give something like a three quick sentence synopsis of what's happening?

Mucho thanks.

The WPA, and all its member federations, are having a pissing contest with Matchroom. They are threatening to ban any and all players who play in MR events from playing in WPA sanctioned events. Along with that, comes govt (taxpayer) money in certain countries for training purposes, medal rewards, etc. So if a player chooses to go the MR way, they would be giving up potentially a lot.

I think if an Asian player plays in a USA hosted MR event, the Asian Federation will still ban them. IDK if that's how their constitution reads or not, just a hunch on my end.

They'll make more with MR in the long-run. A lot more.

Well we clearly know how the ACBS will vote in the October WPA member meeting. I wonder how the other members are leaning? Also, does anyone know if the WPA votes one way, do ALL its members have to follow it? Can they make their own "punishment or non-punishment" rules?

Anytime there is a vote, there is a chance for bribery. Historically there are examples in organized sports and non pool related communities.

What pays better voting for or voting against? This is the real mathematics of politics.

They must hate that 5 ball as much as the rest of us!

Foreign investors are buying up American sports. PGA can't get access to Middle Eastern markets without an endorsement. PGA is the largest sports tourism organization accounting for a major portion of the travel industry.

Can I have a 3 sentence summary of what happened to the PGA? I haven't watched golf closely since the Norman days, but always thought the PGA was unstoppable.
The Saudis pumped a ton of money into a rival professional golf tour. There was different formatting, but the key thing that enticed other pga pros was I believe a bigger share of money and I think guaranteed money or something. The PGA tour tried to ban players, I think sue, and ultimately the two merged and dropped the court cases.

Wow!

Thanks.

Its rule related. What happens if an organizer or player is violating the acceptable cloth colors for WPA competition?
When something is not acceptable, what rule or policy can be enforced?
