Hello. I am inquiring for help to try to correct the way my wife lines up for a shot. She is fairly new to the game and I try to help her out, but I am far from a pro. I noticed that when she gets ready to shoot the ball she is slightly to the right of where she should be. This happens at least 90% of the time and I have to tell her move to the left just a little. When she moves to the left a little she says she can no longer see the shot. What is she doing wrong and how can I assist her in solving the problem? She does wear bifocals and she did notice that when she is standing up looking at the shot she looks through one part but when she got down on the shot she ended up looking through the other part. She has somewhat taken care of that issue. I would appreciate some guidance. Darrell

Freeze a ball to the middle of the foot rail. Have her shoot the cue ball from the head spot straight at the ball on the rail. When she get it straight, the cue ball will bounce back straight up the table. Anything either side of center will send the cue ball to one side or the other. That way, she gets immediate feedback, and can adjust to the point where what she sees is actually the straight line extending out from her cue.

When she can do that fairly consistently, she will have found where she needs to position her head over the cue for accurate sighting.

Hi there,

Your wife is left eye dominant. This is kind of my field of expertise.

This is why when she moves her head to the left she can't see the shot right. She is telling you the truth.

Set up a straight in shot and have her move her head back and forth until she sees the shot good. She will naturally get her eyes in the correct position for herself on this shot.

The cue will look like it is more under her left eye. Depending on the degree of her dominance will depend on where her eye will be on this straight in shot.

Once she can see the shot by having her eyes in the position that looks the best for her, she can practice coordinating what her eyes are seeing with her body to make the shot.

The important thing is she needs the eyes where it looks good for her.

If you have any questions I will help you with a phone call. I will help you understand how all this works so you can help her.
